What's the ideal gap between children?

  • 2 years and 24 days between my two little sproglettes. Hard hard work! But their dad left me when the youngest was only 2 months, so that might have had something to do with how hard it was/is!

My girlies are now 4 and 2, and although I still find it hard (the fighting/the squabbling/the constant noise/mum she hit me etc), I'm sure it will be great in a few years time when they are a bit older. I always wanted a sister. Now my two have got one whether they like it or not!

Well if my boys are anything to go by you will be OK. They are 12 and 14 now and most of the time get on really well, in fact they seem to speak the same language and talk about the same stuff, most of which baffles me and their Dad!

It took me ages to get pregnant with my first and my second was a bit of a surprise so I didnt really plan it that way. There is almost exactly 2 years between my two and if I was going to have a third I would have wanted it to happen quickly, but I accept nature doesnt always work out that way.

And oh dear that article is a bit overdramatic isnt it?

TBH i think it all depends on you, i had 13 months between me and my brother so i always knew i wanted mine closer together but OH had 6 yrs ( would have been less but he had a still born brother in between) so he wanted them further apart. We came to a compromise and have 2 yrs 11 months between them in the end and to me that gap is perfect :) As there still pretty close and not growing up too far apart.

I kept seeing this conversation in the list and having read the title and from experience the correct answer to that question is.

    About 20 miles.

    You beat me to it.
I have four daughters, and between the eldest two you'd have to double that.

Everyone will say that, regardless of what age gap they have, because whatever our situation is, is the one we think is best, because it's what we know.

I don't expect anyone will say 'my age gap is xx and it's rubbish, I considered giving the middle one up for adoption because they were too close together'!

We come to enjoy what we've got, which is obviously a good thing, but makes conversations like this pretty pointless.

The ideal age gap is the age gap you're given.

My 2 don't have the age between them that we'd planned, but it's the perfect age gap now we have these 2 fab little people.
