Optional? Reading this thread the new interface is not "optional" - you need to jump through a few hoops to "opt out" of it.0 -

Yes, my reply was a little tongue in cheek - sorry for that. The new interface is the default interface which is what people are so annoyed about (MS should have at least given new installers the choice as to which interface to use as the default.)If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
It was too subtle ... joe took you at face value.0

This was certainly how you closed a window in Windows 3.1, before the "x" appeared in the top-right (? in Wndows 95 perhaps?).
It was always a double-click rather than a single click, but top-left-double-click-to-close does still work in Windows even now.
I can't remember my Apple history, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Apple was always like this, then Microsoft copied this with "double-click top-left to close" and then Microsoft diverged with the "x" top-right.0 -
Agree with the above. Top left to close has been the standard in GUIs for years and years, as this Atari ST screenshot shows:
Microsoft diverged by moving it to the top right, Apple diverged by moving maximise and minimise to the top left. At least Microsoft kept the original as an option though.0 -

I cheerfully stand corrected! Still can't get my head around that crazy one button mouse Macs all have.......0
