There is nothing bad about W8, really, and I hate to break it to you, but W9 isn't going to go back
Then I'm done with Windows. If W8 is the future then when this copy of Windows 7 is no longer useable/supported, my next OS will be some flavour of Linux, or possibly a hackintosh. Fortunately I have until 2020 to decide.0 -
i cannot fined one thing wrong with win 8 and i use the metro with a mouse,
whats is wrong with it ,works fine
i do not understand whats wrong with it,i've had every operating system since 3.1 and before ,whats so bad about it ,

I don't hate Metro, but I don't love it either
I dislike clutter on my screen and have always kept my programmes neatly organised - having either to swipe through or use the search to start something is not great, so I mostly stay in desktop mode and since I've been using Stardock's ObjectDock on my computers for years, at least I don't miss the start button :rotfl:
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

I wouldn,t pay £15 to go to W7 or even W8, now, got to pay about £50 to get a pc with W7,retro step, which I,ve never used.
Read this article all day, and still dubious of buying a new one with W8, but, not a lot of option, I do believe MS are bringing something new out about october, but, my pc may not make then.
I will
keep reading this thread until my existing pc allows me to, because, I really don,t want a new one with W8, but, may have to, but severely restricted to choice of pc then.
Obvious choice for me, is buy pc with W8, and this is running, and adapt to W8 using this one for on here for good sound advice.when (not if ) stuck.0 -

Windows 8.1 / Windows Blue / Whatever is due later this year. It will be v similar to W8, with rumours of a traditional start button and boot straight to the desktop (bypassing the Metro start screen) but these are rumours. It will be a free upgrade to current W8 users though, that is confirmed, so no point in waiting purely based on that as you would get it regardless.
What don't you like about W8? It's different, yes, but it's fast, smooth, and stable (and mod-able for things you don't like).0 -

This may be laughable, but I,ve never used W8 to critisise it, except on friends and families Pcs , who have paid to revert back to W7.
I am pretty capable of most things, ( silver surfer),bit of a luddite, but, W8 seems to me to be designed for touch screens, which I don,t have, or want. Spend a lot of time on my Pc, so want something I can operate from the off, not like W8, which a lot extol, but, to have to use 3rd party stuff to get to the start menu, WHY?
It,s just a personal thing, would prefer W7, even though I,ve never used that either, perhaps, there,s nothing to fear, but, fear itself.
Probably adapt to it, but this thread, et.al, doesn,t bode well. and I.ve read it all. Thanks to Lum, may have to keep refering back to it, Often.
Like you say,to get the update, if it comes out, I must have W8, so, may have to take the plunge. Thanks for your reply, just doing research, as my pc may not last that long, and I have to rush out and get a new one.Buy in haste, repent at leisure.:beer:0 -

One of the most frustrating things is that MS could have avoided all this by just giving people a choice to enable/disable the start screen depending on if they use a touch screen or not.
The desktop environment is familiar to everyone and with the addition of a start button is very similar to W7. I personally don't use the live apps on the start screen, I just have groups of app shortcuts (ie my Office programmes in one section, games in another, etc etc) so mine is set up to essentially carry out the functionality of the start button. Works for me but everyone's different.
I personally struggle with Macs despite their famed usability, cos I use them once in a blue moon and for short periods of time. I always feel like banging my head against a wall with them, asking why you have to click in the top left of a window to close it. THE TOP LEFT????0 -

Just been to Currys, local, and had a play with W8 on their machines.Acer rep was there, as my machine is Acer Aspire 5920, was looking at Acer aspire i3.£330, W8
Actually, it wasn,t as daunting as I thought, BUT, I still prefer Vista, perhaps because I,m familiar with it.
I think it is going to have to be W8, because rep said, no W7 available. and if the update comes out, ok?
If I thought it wouldn,t be too expensive to fix mine, I would do so, but, it,s 8 years old, but better quality build than new ones.
I have plenty time on my hands , so reckon I could work my way around W8, but why MS didn,t put a start, I don,t know, stupid., it,s neither one thing or the other.
Desktop was easy to get to, so, that,s the main thing.
Ain,t rushing to buy, even though it,s on offer.? see how long mine lasts.:beer:0 -
If you're familiar with Vista then Windows 7 would be equally easy - 7 is essentially Vista with the bugs fixed.0
