This is a good change as it will actually save me money!

I suspect most of the people who think they're going to lose out aren't profitable customers for Vodafone, and if a company can't make a profit then it won't last.

That is a monumentally ridiculous thing for a member of the MSE forum to say !
What they are doing is penalising those who took out or extended contracts with them on the basis that they would be getting free roaming. Vodaf*** now intend to take that away 'mid-contract' and sting anyone who wants to leave with huge leaving fees.

If they were to be honest and upfront they would have brought in the charges for new customers or those who extend their contract after June 1st. But unfortunately they are not honest and upfront they are devious and unscrupulous, even bordering on corrupt.

I don't think there was ever a suggestion of free roaming. Maybe you mean free browsing?

Not that browsing was ever free except, apparently, on the Vodafone Live pages. I don't think any other provider has free browsing to any extent.

This is certainly a great deal cheaper than what I've been using, and I look forward to seeing what the inclusive flat-rate package has to offer. As it is, I'm not a big data user but should still save £10 or £20 a month. About time we had some decent data packages in Europe, the US has had then for years.
  • I think they'll add new tariffs which will allow unlimited access for, say an extra £5 per month. Then we'll think it's good deal when in fact we are worse off.
  • an somebody help on the tmobile - yourcall thread as you seem to have the legal beavers onboard here

I haven't had any written notice of this.
I've checked back through my texts from Vodafone and they haven't informed me of the change. I've had nothing through the post about it unless it was with last month's bill.
I'm wondering whether to question it, or just wait and see what happens. Although as they've modified my phone to ensure I can't see what I'm spending, I could end up with a bill that way.

I had a long call with a service advisor a few nights ago, and I've asked permission to post his reply on the forum. For now, I'll try to summarise -

He said that *he thinks* that if you've got one of the "sms-or-data" bundles that a lot of us have, we'll actually benefit; our sms bundles are worth, say £10 of data in whatever form.

His reasoning was that if you currently have 125 texts, that's actually £x worth of data, and that as the new data rate is lower than the old one, your £x will go further.

However, he wasn't able to confirm this for me, and so I would strongly advise that everyone calls 191 and asks them to send to them in writing confirmation that this price hike will not affect them.

I'm not legally trained or anything, but the T&Cs do say that if the new price scheme is 10% higher than the old one then you can break the contract early (although you lose your phone and phone number) but only if you tell them in writing 2 weeks in advance. Given that they've not confirmed their pricing yet, I don't know when this 2 weeks period will start.

Let me know how you get on!

Nor had I, but I got my letter this very morning!
  • I also received the text a few weeks ago and contacted CS using the email us section of the website.

    I received this email:

Thanks for your email to Vodafone about costs of your GPRS use, I'm happy to help.

I've checked into your account and you'll need to send us written confirmation of these changes that they will cause your bill and uninclusive usage to increase by over 10%.

Please send your written confirmation of these changes to the following address:

    Vodafone Ltd
    PO Box 549
    Banbury
    Oxon
    OX17 3ZJ

Upon sending the letter (with a spreadsheet showing the costs increases), I received a letter back from Voda stating they had checked out my account and as it would increase the bill by 10%, they had removed the minimum term restriction on my account and to call them if I still wanted to cancel. I have requested my PAC and will be porting out later this week.

    Hope this helps someone!
    Paul
