Is there a place for private parking enforcement?

I have already answered the money one. I don't care. Much like I don't care what speeding fines are spent on. Or are they speeding penalties?

In the grand scheme, revenue from speeding is so insignificant it can genuinely be claimed that it is not about the revenue, but the deterrent.

My ideal is not about raising money, it is about stopping people from parking where they shouldn't, or for longer than they should. Look a few pages back, I said this already.

I've never asked for PPCs in their current guise, or any guise for that matter, to be running this show. Nor have I suggested they keep the money for themselves.

However, lets be realistic. If it costs you 500 quid a month to "police" a car park, and you issue 50 tickets, you need them to be a tenner each or you might as well not bother. And if the private sector isn't interested, who will do it? Back to my vision of anarchy in some car parks ( yes, but not all)

I do not, and have never, worked in the parking or retail industries.

What as that, with you being a private citizen, got to do with you whatsoever? Tell us.

Why are you so concerned wanting to "police" private property, namely car parks, for unless you want to make money from it. There is no other motive whatsoever.

There is no managing of car parks whatsoever on private land, well, very rarely anyway, the majority is all done by ANPR cameras now. Cameras do not manage car parks they are there for one purpose only and that is to make money it is as simple as that. The money putting them there in the first place as to be recouped one way or another and it is scamming people that pays for them.

    You said;

    PPC's days are literally numbered.

Once upon a time there were no PPCs infesting car parks, and these car parks were free from threats, free from ANPR cameras and free from grumpy blokes in high vis jackets armed with yellow envelopes, back then the car parks seemed to be OK, without anarchy breaking out.

If you are talking about the days of the horse and cart.. Since then, I think they have been using clamps for parking "offences" up until they were banned. The clamps were very much like the barrier idea, they forced people to pay there and then but they spoilt it by becoming greedy and using them to extort money. If it cost a tenner to release a clamp, I imagine they would still be legal.

I know this is a long thread, but try and keep up. My prime example, already cited, is the shopping centre near to a station. No parking limits, the car park is full by 7am with commuter cars. The carpark is open at that time as it has a restaurant on site. Bad for shoppers, bad for business. And I would obviously exclude the Asda in the middle of a field on the outskirts of town before you counter with that.

I never said all car parks need this. I asked if there is a place for it. And in this case, there is.

If there is no parking limits then people can park there as long as they like. It's still got nothing to do with you.

You haven't answered the question, what as it got to do with you?

The problems started when ppcs turned up, going back some years ago there was barriers and a person checking receipts on the way out, you pay a quid without a receipt, technology has moved on you could a token or voucher etc to put into the barrier for exit. Yes it costs money but it will stop most people who abuse car parks. Also if shops were that concerned about people over staying, why not have signs in the shop themselves ? The answer is of course they don't people to run out of time shopping so don't want to rush them, which goes counter what the scammers do in their name out in the car park.

I would suggest people write to shops to complain about these fake tickets with words like. Tesco Parking Charge Notice etc, make sure you consider that they issued this ticket, always refer to it as that despite what they say, refuse point blank to deal with parking companies directly

I was in a McDonald's once where the parking was managed by a PCC. They had signs on the tables explaining the time limits along with a request that you let the manager of the restaurant know if you needed longer. That seemed like a reasonable compromise.

Is this shopping centre in some parallel world where car parking barriers and ticket machines haven't been invented?

Sorry, I meant if there were no parking limits, it would be full. There are parking limits, so instead the commuters fill the ten pound a day station carpark next to it.

You clearly live in some underpopulated part of the world, because where I live, people abandoning cars wherever they see fit is a daily nuisance. That is what it has to do with me.

I said right at the start that I came to this part of the forum because I got one of these tickets. I am actually coming round to the idea of paying it after a few people on here have made it obvious that all they are interested in, or prepared to talk about, is a situation where they can do whatever they like, when they like and "big business" will pick up the tab - or add it to the bill in some discreet way, more likely.

If you are so worried about these people, stop parking in their car parks! Park somewhere else and walk. Get the bus. But of course, you won't, because you prefer to moan about it!

The parking is free, but limited time. In my parallel world we have zero pound notes but no machines to put them in.

Is this a class thing then? I can afford the charges, and you cannot?

Cost of motoring, I'm afraid. That's why they have busses.
