i think you woulnt have a problem with shildon its little and not alot of trouble, i think its more small famiely that live aaround there. but west is ok, its just a bus ride away from the town centre witch has trains, bus stations. also there are about three schools in the town centre so u would prob have no trouble getting people to rent from you. But i would live in west as its known to be abit rough if you no what i mean.
So you would live in west auckland or you wouldn't?0 -

Hi fkelanne
What's it like living at Coundon Grange? Nice? I spotted a potential place there but wasn't too sure?
Does it not bother you being so close to Eldon?
Nice to see someone close on here
:P
To the OP, I'd agree with what fkelanne has said. Though I'd add that Shildon comes across as a bit 'boring'. IMO it has no nice pubs - they're cot anywhere I'd chose to have a drink, certainly not take a date - heh. Not that you will base your decision on the pubs, but in many ways I think pubs reflect the area and mentality of the locals. No offense meant to anyone in the area of Shildon. I have very close friends that live there, and visit regularly....though we NEVER socialise there.
....it does however have a fantastic Indian restaurant!

I want to buy in the North East of England, between Newcastle and Durham (Bishop's Aukland or Shildon perhaps) and wondered if anyone could recommend an estate agent or solicitor in the area?
LOL! before making a purchase it might be wise to research some geography.
Shildon is about 10 miles south of Durham and Bishop Auckland about 10 mile south-west. (Spelling would be a good one too....)
Newcastle lies 16 miles to the north.0 -

oh right

It was a house in Coundon Grange - I can't remember the exact location/details as I just spotted it online. Think it's at the top of the 'tunnel' that joins south church to coundon grange - that area.

If you go to https://www.rightmove.co.uk it has houses from anywhere in the country from most estate agents.
I am in the Bishop Auckland area myself.0 -
Oh and by the way, Coundon is not a good place to live. It has a very bad reputation for gangs and trouble.
Same goes for Ferryhill and Spennymoor. Shildon has nothing going for it at all.
West Aucland and St. Helens Auckland have some nice newer build houses.0 -
I think all places mentioned have good and bad parts. I live in an area which is classed as bad but like it and have no bother. School and nursery both local etc, shops wise we only have one and no pub but doesn't bother me in the slightest. When choosing where to move to I would visit day time during week, Sunday and on a weekend night, get a good idea what it's like from that IMO. Bit unfortunate if you are not in the position to do so.
Students, doesn't appeal to me at all, maybe that is because I used to work in the bars and clubs, aswell as having to clean the puke out of a taxi from what a student did last night. May be bright supposedly but can't handle their drink! One day I might be more organised...........
