Stop being so lazy, get in your car & drive up to have a look for yourself - while you're there you can visit a few EAs and ask their opinions. Ifyou're going to do it, you might as well do it properly."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -

Dont be so nasty. Thats what these forums are for, you ask advice and people give......if you dont have constructive advice then keep quiet, maybe :cool:0 -
Would go there to look, but live in Ireland and can't get the time off work until June. Thought I would try to do a little early research.
Besides, nothing beats a little local knowledge. Two days in the area (which I have already booked for June) has nothing to what you can learn from someone who has lived there for years.0 -
CL what you are doing is perfectly sensible - there are so many places that look good on paper, or even in person, but have local problems that aren't reflected in the price - a little local knowledge goes a long way; a friend who moved to birmingham made a polite enquiry to the local police and got some very helpful information about areas to avoid - might be worth a stamp.
When you do make the trip and have some properties in mind one trick is to take a walk down the back lanes - graffiti on back gates is a sure sign that vandalism by local kids will be a problem: as an aside I was recently reading comments of people who have done the sea to sea bike ride and it was depressing the number who said how nice the ride was until they got to the North East and had to deal with kids throwing stones/firing air rifles/covering the path in broken glass - finding a good area with decent people is everything.0 -

It does not matter where you come from there will be good and bad. Please dont tar us all with the same brush. Im born and bred North East and find your comment quite insulting.0 -
I wrote that I found it depressing that other people have had bad experiences of the north east because I also come from the north east - I was not tarring everyone in the North East with the same brush but highlighting the need to buy in an area where the efforts of decent people are not thwarted by an over representation of chava scum. The original poster writes from Ireland and is asking for explicit guidence - it was not my intention to cause offence but there is no point in sugaring the pill. I actually have two homes in the North East one in Newcastle and one in county durham - the newcastle property is worth 180k and the durham one barely 60k - despite this I would tell anyone that asked to avoid the area of Newcastle I live in like the plague due to the feral kids who delight in breaking windows and damaging cars - this is the sort of info "CL" needs to know.0
