getting over complicated, buy a portable usb hard disk, and either copy your data to it, or do a disk image, a £40-50 500GB-1TB hard disk would probably be big enough to backup all the machines in the house with disk imaging which would enable you to recover a working machine with all data in minutes
I,ve never had any trouble backing to cd/dvd, but usb stick , which I,ve just had, is same as external drive ?
It,s the transfer program in this case sync as above,I.m having trouble with.
I used to use Nero, no trouble, but cd/dvd again.?

how much data are you backing up, where is it, how much capacity has your flash drive got.

be careful with sync software, as it can delete the originals.

    folks.

please remember. if you're using google they search EVERYTHING you do. They have to comply with US Patriot act (as do ALL US companies) which basically gives the US authorities free reign to have a look at what you're up to without so much as a by your leave. Don't rely on DVD's or CD's they fail more often than you think. USB's are ok but they too fail.

Cloud is good but you're limited to the upload bandwidth of your internet connection.

I use a combination of cloud and local backups. Important stuff is both on local AND cloud. I don't use ANY of the US companies for the above reason.

I've mentioned it several times elsewhere. I use Excipere. They're cheap, they're UK company, UK data centres and they can let me get to my stuff from anywhere on any of my devices. They don't limit the file types or sizes and even though i'm restricted to an upload speed of 82KB/s (that's average broadband upload speed) I've put over 500GB with them and it's cost £50. Yes that's a yearly price but like i said. It's cheaper than a new hard drive and I can get to my stuff from anywhere.

Their backup is fully automated i don't have to think about it. everytime I change something it's backed up.
