Aww thanks Lynsey and Untouchable. I am keen to try to teach them the concept of earnings some money (interest) for doing nowt other than not touching your savings. However, my "interest" rates for their pots are very good :) They will just see it as a game, and I am thinking how best to make it exciting for them and not boring. Will update you further in a few months when the boxes start to take shape.

I think that is a great way to teach them about interest! Our DD still gets really excited to find money around the house and put it in my tin, though last time she found forty cents I told her to keep it (they were greenish anyway and I don't want dirt in my tin ^.^) so she spent it on muffins at the canteen the next day!

Their grandmother has tins that she puts money into for them for what I assume will go to them when they are old enough. The kiddies are under the impression that their sealed pots at nannies are for treats and that daddy and I can go to nans and get money whenever they would like a drink from the shop down the road. No Miss M, thats not how it works :D

I think I will also be starting up my own nest egg for them come after christmas. Just a few dollars a week or so until we can really put money away for them, it'll add up sooner or later, though I think I'll hold onto the money until they need it, like university text books (mine cost $400 just for 6 months!) or a broken down car.

  • What a fab idea nell. If that doesn't help them to save then nothing will!

I decided to count and bank the (unsealed) tub with all the coppers in as it's getting a bit heavy to keep moving. It came to a lovely £10 :T plus about 20 odd pence which I put back in to start it off again. My sealed pot containing 50p and over remains unmolested :rotfl: Siggy will be updated in a mo :)

Enjoy the sun everyone but slap on that sunscreen :D

    Morning All

I'm afraid I've lost my way a little and haven't put anything by for weeks. Hoping to start saving again this week......even if its only a £1.

Have a lovely Sunday, enjoy the sunshine!

hello mumof3plusoh and Happybeingme - still lots of time time before pots are opened (I think someone mentioned it was about 20 weeks). At a pound a week, it still adds up. Stick with us.....we'll encourage you :)

£401+ potted now and still approx 20 weeks to "weigh in".
So an average of £10 per week will get me to that £600 mark Sue. ;)

    Lynsey

An excellent amount saved, Lynsey!! :T I agree in that the £10er a week between now and November 28th November should see you hitting that Target!! Go Lynsey! :j everyone else too!

Nell, your nephew will feel like Christmas has come when you open your pot, the excitement generated is so intense here....and for him! A great idea with the pots for Christmas, we did the same for our Grandkiddies and it works wonderfully in keeping them motivated. :grinheart

Helloooo again, mummytummy Sue! So, you've emigrated then, good for you. :D Of course it's ok to stick with us we wouldn't have it any other way. 'Untouchable' is also from Oz. Well done in having saved so much!! :T I hope you all really enjoy your new life.

Well done on the £10 of copper, little_sweetie, amazing how in mounts up - and how heavy it weighs. Thanks for the siggy update.

I'm so very sorry to hear that, mumof3plusoh, surprised too as you've always been so keen and here most days. How about coming back more regularly and see if we can increase your desire to have more in the pot?! Good to hear you had a good day with the male elders (sounds like a tribe), how are the DD 1, DD 2 & DS? Fingers crossed in seeing you soon. :grinheart

You too, Happybeingme, do your best to become Happybeingasaver. :D Any little bits of cash that can be saved.....put in the pot before they're spent!! ATB.

Have a good Sunday, everyone. Remember.....the sunscreen!

Thanks for the support nell36 and Sue-UU

I really need to get back into this but its been very expensive recently with DS1's 18th and booking a course at college.

I think I will pot daily and also sign into this thread daily ~ I do this for another thread and find it really helps. Nothing whatsoever in my purse today so I'll start properly tomorrow :D

Oh birthdays can be so expensive! Our DD and DS birthdays are a week apart in October! DD wants her party at an animal barn xD I think we'll just maybe invite a couple friends over or just do a family joint party. 7 + 6 years old isn't that big right? :D

I remember Christmas 2 years ago I managed to do the christmas shopping for about $250 AUD (150 pounds for you UKers :p) which included christmas tree decorations 8D. Last year I was with my mum for christmas since it was the last one before I moved out and I was jobless at the time (still am, but full time student!) so my family got gifts of love xD

Nothing for the pot the last two days. I think its starting to feel hungry. I get money tomorrow, so I might feed it $20 or so, I return to my mothers on Sunday the 14th so hopefully I'll be able to save most of my money while I'm over there!

Yikes, only 20 weeks to go... better get my skates on and see if I can squeeze out any spare cash from DHs pockets in an evening! the usual £1 per day and daily scrapnel for the VW campervan and 3 x £2 for the owls head. the campervan is getting full and heavy again so may have to bank it soon.

Right time to get back into the sun in sunny suffolk and hope everyone else is having a great weekend.
