Ok, thanks. Can anyone recommend a supplier/fitter in the Sheffield area?

Chris at fahrenheit stoves might be interested in the "off season" but as in / around Leeds i doubt he'd be able to do it at this time of year.

I've met his mum(in law), who runs the shop, and she was incredibly helpful, even though i didn't eventually use their services (distance mostly).

He used to post on here but I've not seen him for a while.

    website is here:- http://www.fahrenheitstoves.com/

worst they can do is say no guess.

I contacted Chris at Fahrenheit Stoves as I'd read some of his posts on here and looked at the website and he seemed to know what he was talking about. Due to the time of year he couldn't come out so asked me to send some measurements and photos, which I did. He replied saying the fireplace was to small for a free standing stove and that I'd have to have an insert stove, which I don't want, so I was disappointed with his reply.
My sister's boyfriend is a building inspector and he says I shouldn't have a problem getting a stove to fit, I've just got to get the old fireplace taken out to make sure.

Was Chris reply based on a particular stove or in general?

I know a lot of stoves specify minimum clearance distances around them for air flow. My stove, as an example, has a minimum 150mm clearance requirement either side and 50mm behind.

I wouldn't expect him to say you can't have a free standing stove without a reason?

Obviously i'm not privvy to the rest of the conversation but it would surprise me that he'd just say you can't and not explain why.

Yes, that's exactly what he said, that there wasn't enough room for the 150mm clearance each side. The chimney breast is 47 inches wide, I don't know how wide the pillars are until I get the old fireplace out but my sister's boyfriend says they could be as little as half a brick each side.

Short of bringing the stove "forward" and having the stove pipe go out the back and then "up" i would suspect that a "cassette" stove sounds like the better option.

    Edit:-

I've just had a read of the "euroheat" specs and even to non combustible materials they insist that you must have 100mm clearance either side of any of their stoves and 50mm behind.
(the above is for wood, for solid fuels add 50mm clearance to the sides).

Others may vary but i suspect you are going to struggle unless you can open the fireplace out more.

I'll have to see what's there when I get it opened up. Thanks anyway
  • Hi - did you go ahead in the end, and if so, where did you find your supplier/installer. I'm considering going for this model, but not sure I've found the most competitive (and reliable) source! Many thanks.
