Last week I bought Kleenex Balsam in Asda 2 packs for £2. Stocked up as they come in handy when your nose is red raw. I also bought Asda Bramble Jelly Jam at half price. I love this jam. I cant remember if it was 34p or 43p but a good bargain. Here again I stocked up.
I bought some Microwave Egg Fried Basmati Rice from Lidls today 75p. I have always avoided microwave rice in the past because I thought it was too expensive. It takes 2 mins in the microwave. I just wonder if this is cheaper than boiling normal rice for 20mins. Can you boil rice and then freeze it in small portions - that would probably be the best solution. Being organised helps to save money.0 -
Here's some background to the big increase in rice prices from the BBC last week. Some countries had to ban exports to feed their own people.

It would seem that food prices are on the rise yet again! I buy a certain pack of mushrooms every week in Morrisons, they were 65p before xmas and then went up to 74p. But on yesterdays shopping visit there were some packs for 74p and exactly the same ones amongst them for 89p...the only difference was a day between the best before date. I can't believe they are going up an extra 15p, that's without adding all other foods that have had a price increase. It's no wonder everyone's struggling.Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0

While shopping for food may be worthwhile at one of the big four supermarkets, it certainly pays to give them a miss when purchasing toiletries or pet food. In these two areas the big four will charge excessive prices. Try Wilkinsons as an alternative for toiletries, pet food and pain relieving medicines/tablets. No I don't work for them!
Here's an example 100ml of colgate £1.49 at local ASDA, 125 ml of colgate (same type-cool mint) £0.89 at Wilkinsons.0 -

2 700gr mince beef for £6.00
1 box stuffing 54p
bag of pots £1.28

2 boxes profiteroles (20 in each box) £1 each = £2 (all reduced prices)
2 fruit strudels £1 each = £2
Double Cream x1 £1.68 (26.19)
Various crisps etc £2.39

Less than £2 a head :j
Should say - we are having hot pork baps & home made chilli
& pot wedges, apple sauce is homemade from left over apples
I know i may have got some of this cheaper in another supermarket but was pleased with my buys. Looking around sainsburys they had some very good offers on all over the store, especially with half price joints of meat:j0 -
Watch the mysupermarket site as there is a problem with it. I wondered why whenever I used it the shop I'd nominated always seemed to be the cheapest until one time I swapped over to look at the "alternative" baskets at the other stores. They were totally different and on going back through (yes I was very bored that day!) I found that by changing the dodgy items for the true match to my original choice the results changed dramatically. Tesco's, originally the cheapest were easily beaten by Sainsbury's much to my surprise. Asda were still in 3rd place. Fixture Ferrets is good though!0

I use this site to find money saving coupons before I go off to shop. couponsus.net :j0

Sainsbury's basics tuna up another 2p a can, tinned toms up another 2p a can. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't put those labels up everywhere telling how much they are 'cutting' prices.......We buy as little as possible from the supermarkets.0

Have found using mysupermarket for my shopping that Sainsbury's always comes up as the cheapest! So much for how great and cheap Asda and Tesco are! Perhaps because I buy a lot of own brand Sainsbury's is cheaper?May Wins: 2 x Beauty Brilliance Multipurpose Highlighter Sticks in pink and gold, Cellulite buster cream, Garnier eye roll-on stuff and James Brown Hair Mask.
