I have done this for years and it really works for me try it it could help you too. I have a shopping list o the PC of all the items I have all the time, and before I go shopping I cross off what I know we don't need. and add to the bottom extras that we do need. much easier than trying to think whats needed.

I used to buy loads of toothpaste when they BOGOF, I've cut down on the amount I buy after discovering a few months later when sorting out bathroom drawers the toothpaste was out of date, I chucked it out in case the ingredients werent as effective as they should be. So they were'nt such a bargain for me after all.
Just thought I'd mention that I often do things like this, but only for products I know I will use within date.
Whenever there is frozen food on special offer that I know we will eat, I will stock up on them to make the most of the offer. For example last week Morrisons had Findus Crispy Pancakes reduced from about £1 to something like 59p for a box of 4, so I bought 2 boxes (would have bought more if my other half hadn't looked at me disapprovingly lol).
I also have a particular thing about not spending a fortune on toilet roll (you do only flush it down the loo after all). I still like to buy brand names, because lets face it, they usually are better quality, but whenever they are on offer, e.g. 4 rolls for £1 or thereabouts, I stock up on plenty of them, which usually tides us over until someone has them on offer again. When a lot of brand names charge up to £2 for these, it can add up to a huge saving.£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

Lo-carb/diabetic/wheat free diet? Or just like 'exotic' food? Try ethnic markets - mine had 12 packs of rice noodles for £6. That's £14.40 in an average supermarket! I reckon each pack serves 2 healthy appetites - making it an oriental treat for 25p each from the market option.
Plus you pump money into your local economy and sole traders (even if the food is from far away), bypassing supermarkets' supply chains.
Also got a giant watermelon at the market for £1, for fruit lovvvers!
I apologise in advance to anyone who doesn't live near an urban ethnic market. But I grew up in the country with parents who made 'big trips' to
ethnic markets and supermarkets - tins and packets for a fraction of
'normal' supermarkets' huge mark-up on anything vaguely 'exotic'!
Credit crunch but don't want to crunch the planet?
Ecover washing tablets still work on an average dirt-level wash if you use half a tablet, rather than the recommended 2 tabs!
Also watch out for places like independent health shops - mine refills
any Ecover liquid product bottles and gives you money off each time.
Sometimes it's 25p per item, but never underestimate being cheery in
a cold credit crunch climate - I got 50p per bottle off for just smiling!0 -
I'm new to this so forgive me if anyone else has already said this! I've just got back from doing my weekly Tescos shop & noticed that some (not all) Tescos Value items are more expensive than their standard range. Tescos value butter was 96p whereas Tescos ordinary butter was 84p. Has anyone else noticed this?0

Have a good look at the price per kg/litre- although they sometimes print them in different formats to confuse people:rolleyes:
I used to buy Tesco own label tea bags- and would buy a bigger pack assuming it was the economical way.....one day, I checked the small print- and found I was paying considerably more than I would have been for a bigger pack! The same goes for the OH's cereal. They rely on people assuming that buying in bulk is cheaper- I now check everything!

Just a word of warning to those who's mind is on Christmas and not are not paying attention to ticket prices.
Last night I was in Morrissons and the woman in front of me at the checkout had only a few items and was questioning the price of a packet of Uncle Ben's 2 minute microwave long grain rice in the plastic packet that stands upright. It had come up at £1.70 and someone was away to check the price. I said to her it must be wrong because I sometimes buy them and they were £1.11 or 3 for £3 on a few weeks ago.
The girl came back and said the price is in fact £1.70! How it can go from £1.11 to £1.70 I do not know but if the woman had had a trolley full of goods instead of a hand basket she wouldn't have noticed the price probably.
They are giving £20 off your shopping in Christmas week if you produce 4 receipts of over £40 and it's easy to see where that £20 is coming from.
A portion of bolied rice at my local takeaway is £1.50 and it's cooked and hot!0
