I struggle so bad trying not to spend savings as I'm a spontaneous buyer. Last year I was in and out off savings throughout then blew it all on crimbo.
This year I'm saving deposit for my house so I know it's for the good so this year I'll be trying my absolute hardest not to take any out lol0 -
I know its only early days but does anyone find the temptation to spend whilst saving hard?
I find it's best to stash the savings I know I should have in away in a different account straight away on pay day, so it's like it never existed and it's a hassle getting it out again. At the end of the month I'm broke, and if I hadn't already put away the savings I know I'd be dipping in.
I make sure though I've put money in my household /car/household/holiday/dentist(!) account beforehand, should money for these be needed. I also have a £50pm "treat" fund which I try build up and which I can blow on anything as it's been budgeted for! (currently running in deficit as I bought an ipad. But that'll be healthy again in a few months).

Hello YBM
I got a Kindle Paperwhite which has a built-in light for Xmas, so I didn't have to buy it. A bit pricy at £109.
However, I've really enjoyed using it. Downloaded 200 free books from Am*zon, and various sites links they have. (Went into Am*zon, then Kindle, then Kindle Books, scroll down the list on the left, for Free Collections, links further down for alternatives for free web-sites, free books).
Most are out-of-copyright classic fiction e.g. Jane Austen, Bronte sisters, A. Conan-Doyle, Rider-Haggard, etc., got some cookery ones, sample chapters, slef-help books, not a lot seem to be there for financial books, but there is non-fiction section of the usual genres.
Have to say I love it, and I am getting a bit square-eyed now from reading too much....!
Got interview for second job tomorrow, keeping everything crossed....
Good luck all and keeeeeeepppp savvving!

My spreadsheet shows us being up about £500 at the moment, but my investments into S&S ISA won't register for a few days, so probably up about £880. Not bad considering Christmas spending, etc.0

NsD today, took my youngest to a free screening of wreck it ralph with Christmas sweets and a flask like a real cheapskate. We really enjoyed it. Had lovely second Christmas day dinner with my folks, who then chipped in £50 towards all the food and drink. I'm going to put half of that straight into my savings. So a good day:j0

This sounds like a good idea, but I know by November/December time I probably won't have £50ish a week to spare! I'd probably be best starting it back to front! :rotfl:
Yes I thought that too. It's probably a good way to save for Christmas. Or I could do 1 - 52 and my DH could do 52 - 1. I will think this through. My secret fantasy is having 2 men....

Have put away another £78.76 this morning so roughly (if I have done it right) 7% saved so far.
£218.76 saved - £2781.24 to goMARCH £62.38/2500 -
Started my £ pot today after seeing a USA friend post the idea on FB.
Week one you put £1 into a pot, week 2 £2 week 3 £3 and so forth come week £52 you put £52 in and should have £1,378
So far I have £3, week 2 starts on monday
What a great idea. Sounds like a fun way to save, if you can manage the larger weekly deposits at the end of the year.Save £12k 2013 '13 #66 £12,106.76/£12,000 // '14 #44 £10,081.90/£10,000 // '15 #67 £11,976/£12,000 // '16 #67 £7,322/£12,000
