Hi all. Great to see the amounts going up. However small, it's all savings and getting us into good habits.
Quite astonished that I've so far managed £1016.48 for March which I'm really pleased about as you can imagine! I've set myself a new target (in my head!) of £20k for 2013, which means that we can start OPing the mortgage in 2014. Luckily DH is totally on board now so both of us are being super frugal.
Have just opened the Nationwide account paying 5% on the first £2.5k as my ISA is maxed out. Will open another in DH's name once I've got the first up and running.
Happy saving everyone!Make £2020 in 2020 £178.81/£2020

Hi Alex - have you considered the new Nationwide account? 5% on first £2500 for 12 months? You need to transfer in £1000 p/m but can transfer it straight back out again.
I'm not sure how to calculate the best account but thought 5% even on some savings would be good?
Got 3x Lloyds Classic Vantage 4%, 1 Nationwide 5%, 1 First Direct A/c £100cashack, First Direct Monthly Saver 6%, Santander 123 (£55 cashback), Transferring £5640 into Santander fixed 2 year 3% ISA when it opens Monday then putting in another lump sum to last me the year, Halifax reward ac £5PCM. Think thats it0 -
It is definitely £3,000 goal, a week today. Meaning in a week I will be at £3,000 for the year so far. Thread seems to be getting a bit quieter recently, maybe everyone out earning money for saving on this challenge. I still feel miles behind where I need to be to hit my years target. Was meant to be going to an auction this morning but I have decided against it to make sure I can save as much as possible!:eek:Living frugally at 24

Sold my car this week, £7750 in the pot. :j
Adjusted target is now £20,000
Slightly off topic, I'm surprised SF has only 42 thanks for this opening thread when there are over 225 members, quite surprising. Thanks SF! :T

Do you not need a car/have another? Great idea to sell up either way! I'm doing the same with my motorbike, however, I doubt I will get near £7750 for it, more like £1,200! All mounts up though! I'v the same target as you.:eek:Living frugally at 24

Currently on £345 for 2013. As things stand, I've got no concerns about hitting my 2K target this year

Keep pushing forward! I love the daily updates on here. Can't wait to get working and saving. Does anyone know of a good thread to help with making money?! I can't sell my car as I need it for work, I am starting a freelance job on Monday but won't get aid until mid April...I've been selling some bits on EB*Y but have kind of lost the way with money making ideas.
You lot are fab with all your savings and thank you SF for this thread. :jMarried in 2016. Bought our first home in 2017. Expecting our first baby in November 2017

Has been a particularly bad month so far as both myself and OH have been ill (must have been the mouldy cheese
) and my 90 yr old Dad was rushed into hospital this week. I know it sounds daft but this has pushed up our spending along with the dramatic demise of our table and chairs in the kitchen, which had to be replaced from the emergency fund.
I'm not sure how much I can afford to put into savings this moth so I've been thinking outside of the box. I have applied for a bog standard Santander account through TCB, which should net me £33.66. It wouldn't be worth it to set up a 123 account with the small amount of DD I have and the monthly fee. I will then set up a couple of direct debits from the account so it is ready to transfer over to First Direct for the £100 cashback and 6% regular saver. Hopefully this will work out. If not, the account will be there ready and primed for switching if there are any good switching rates in the future.
I am also going to take advantage of fleabays free listings-thanks Tales17-this weekend and sell my Sindy dolls (sniff) I will be heartbroken to see them go but they should turn a bit of a profit and to be honest they're not doing much. OH will be pleased to see the back of them though :rotfl:Pay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/69490 -

I've just upgraded my FlexAccount to the FlexDirect, just for the interest rate as I don't use the travel insurance with them anyway. I figured the same as you, 5% on savings which would otherwise be earning less than 3% sounds good to me! The only thing I'm finding weird is having £2500 plus monthly spending money in my current account - normally its just my monthly spending money! Saying that, I've only just switched so I guess I will get used to it in time.
