Sold another thing just lying around my house the other night another £3 in my purse! I'm trying not to buy any magazines as they are my weakness!

Magazines are bad for me too so I treated myself to a subscription of my fave to keep me ticking over.

Up to £400 now, staying out of tesco before work is really helping, though my coin jars are suffering. You win some you lose some :rotfl:

  • Added another £200 across to the savings account today. New total £2213:j.Hoping to add more once I get paid which is next Thursday.

I still need to get myself organised with selling more books on Amazon and with selling an old laptop and printer. Also hoping my self-assessment will show either me owing no money to HMRC or that I am due some money back. Just waiting to the accountant to get it finalised.

I am on track with my savings so far but my contract runs out on 2 June:eek: and my wee business is closing so I must, must, must get a permanent contract organised for this job or a different one before 2nd June!
  • Well done everyone on your savings so far, I've enjoyed reading everyone's updates.

Not the best start for me as I've already spent the £200 "pocket money" I had allocated myself for January and it's still 2 weeks to payday! Technically I don't NEED to buy anything, as I'm still living with parents and my food etc. is provided, but a friend has asked me to go for dinner and to cinema this weekend and I just know I'll end up going!

Does anyone else struggle saying no to things like this? It's hard getting the balance between seriously saving and still having a social life!!

    Hi

I've been saving for a deposit for ever it feels like. Just over £2,200 at the moment and have started this challenge with £800 this month. Need to really up my game if I'm ever going to buy a flat and I thought the support of a thread might help me believe I'll actually get somewhere one day..

Before you read this, I'm incredibly ill and a bit delirious, if I'm making no sense or manage to insult you, I don't mean to.

I also live with my parent, though I would like to contribute more. I live near a medium to large group of friends which I'm actually working on expanding... So I can definitely relate.

If meeting up with friends for a "quiet one" I get myself one soft drink, as do most of my friends. Cost for the evening is usually £4 max

When meeting up for a regular "date night" (mondays are usually a meal night with a close friend of mine), we eat a meal for less than £10 each (hungry horse, it's pretty good for the price, also it can be wetherspoons). We also take it in turns for paying. For the month it comes to less than £40.

When out with a large (20+) group of people, I just don't get anything. I pay for travel in this case so it costs £2.40 (railcard). No one notices.

When I go to cinema, I never also go for a meal and never get drinks or snacks. I find that snacks detract from the experience. I do this on dates and never have any comments on it, maybe there is some quiet relief..?

When I go for a meal, I choose either a starter and dessert or a main. I find eating more than that makes my jaw hurt.

A "big night" is... expensive. I've never managed to spend more than £80 in one night but I'm dreading the 3 digit night out. It tends to happen once every 2 months though..

All this is probably just waffle, but I do tend to go out 3-4 times a week and until november I survived on my savings from uni (approx £500 spent on 3 months' socialising).

I have no saving news. I had to take today off sick of work and now I'm worrying that I might lose my job. I've been there 7 weeks I think and this is my second sick day. I just couldn't go in, my neck is swollen to the point of not looking like a neck and I have a rash on my face! /hopefully worrying for nothing : )
  • Hello all,

Well done for the job BBB : ) How are the two time tables fitting together?

Thanks KP, just about managing by rushing from one job to the other! No time to eat except 1/2 hour lunch, sadly, but doing wonders for the waistline!

Hey everyone. :) Hope you're all okay

My LO has acid reflux so was prescribed Infant Gaviscon at our 6 week post-natal check today. He also has Colic. Poor bubba. :(

As for me, I'm struggling alot with the M.E and the stairs to our flat (we live in a first floor flat but have our own door to outside and then stairs to our flat if that makes sense?) I refuse to have a stairlift put in. I'm only 26!

I've been invited out tomorrow for a cuppa with my hubby's mum and sister so I'm hoping I'll be well enough to go. I'm a bit of a recluse with my illness so spend alot of my time indoors. :(

Added £2.59 to the pot, making my total £3.11/£3000 (long way to go!)

    Hi all

£200 added to ISA today so a grand total so far of £221. I've been looking at Sindy dolls on fleabay...not to buy I hasten to add. I'm still debating on selling my two Sindys. I could possibly get £50 odd for one of them but they are my babies. Oooooh decisions decisions!

Well, I did buy the laptop, here's how I justified it to myself :rotfl:

    • I sold several things on ebay/Amazon which raised about 1/6 of the price
    • I waited almost a week while I thought about it
    • I got some extra work in, for which it will be useful (well, better and more convenient than its elderly predecessor which turns out to weigh 2.5kg, doesn't sound a lot but is a lot to lug about)
    • I asked our IT oracle for advice and as a result, got one cheaper than I expected, and with a long guarantee
Still, I am ahead of my target at present and am feeling very happy to be squirelling it away. I also have January's tax bill covered which is a nice feeling. This thread is really helping me focus, thanks all!
