I'm planning to be back on most nights again as I liked reading other people's diaries (does that make me sound like a stalker? - eeeekkk!) and loved the support on these boards. Updating my diary also helped me keep on track - I have definately fallen off recently, whoops x
It's definately feeling good to be backApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

Hiya loz!
That's really good going - I definately need some of your resolve / moneysaving will power. I'm doing awfully bad at the moment. My first step was coming back onto MSE but all I seem to be doing at the moment is realising where I'm going wrong and not doing anything about it. Sigh... Payday is my fresh sheet - I'm working away this weekend so I will have to spend (on petrol if nothing else) but then payday is soon after and I think I will simply have to leave my purse at home
If I could achieve 2 weeks of no spending I'd be so chuffed with myself, so good on you there! :TApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
oh well my weekend was well and truely scuppered.
we were went to go away to whitby for the weekend for our first wedding anniversary. lovely i hear you say...
i had budgeted £100 for the weekend... £40 petrol. £35 for the rest of the bnb & £25 for food. super.
well Friday afternoon, my hubs gets home and the cat has had kittens. 1 alive 1 dead. so we cancelled the bnb (so to only lose the deposit & not get charged the rest of it) so that was the trip cancellend. couldnt leave the kitten and the cat for the weekend and wasnt fair to ask someone to go in. then late friday night the kitten died. the cat seemed all ok. so the weekend we did some DIY spent the money i had budgeted on house stuff and the spare room got gutted and started as we've pretty much done everything we can in babies room except carpet (friday) and paper (13th July).
then yesterday (monday) hubs got home again....to two kittens. 1 dead & 1 alive. the one that was alive has made it through the night and seems to be doing ok. . so we are now grandparents. very strange weekend.
money wise... get paid a week on thrsday and still doing ok for money so hopeully the spare room will be all finished and maybe put some away into savings..
i can not tell how nice it is to not have a lodger any more. the house is so nice and calm & TIDY! i know this is only until the baby comes hahaFacing up to things - nov 2012 total 9334.95

2 days before payday & i still have £31 in my bank. i may need to put some petrol in my car yet so dont want to bang that in savings yet.
we're trying to do the hosue up (spare room is being worked on still) and save as much as possible. tbh the only thing we need to buy now is the radiator & valve for the spare room. we have all the paint & woodwork for the spare room & the hall stairs and landing so only another £45 to spend there. at the same time we have knocked the takeaways that had crept back in on the head and we're saving every penny possible. hubs has been picking up a few extra private jobs so thats helping quite a bit, but we're aiming to get to the position where i can have 6 mopnths off on mat leave. initially we said i'd only be able to have 4 months off.. which we have saved for. now we think the savings will stretch to 5 months....so we're gonna go hammer for 6 months if possible. if not the extra month with baby will be exellent anyway. some days i get a bit down about the debt free journey just keep extending due to dropping my payments to get my savings up...but its a needs must and i'm not adding to my debt so that is the positive spin on it.Facing up to things - nov 2012 total 9334.95

The Debt Free Journey can be surprisingly hard going can't it - not just in the expected way of 'I can't have all the things I used to enjoy' but in the 'oh heck this feels like a long slog' kind of way. It's hard to get past that feeling but it's at least a good thing that the overpayment money is being put aside for savings and not squanderedApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500
