70+ years ago loads of house were built as terrace straight onto the street, cars were an aspirational dream for many.
Today they are commonplace outside big cities. In many areas they ar ea necessary to live the life that has evolved. there simply is no public infrastructure capable of delivering bodies to the various places they need to go, at the times they need to go.
To ignore them or pay them lip service simply creates lots of other problems and does absolutely nothing for our CO2 footprints and targets that our politicians see as sacrosanct. When I drive locally my car happily averages 50mpg , if I visit my in laws in a medium sized city and stay there for a few days it plummets to low 40s simply because the traffic can't move.
That is fair enough it was designed as a community before the advent of cars. Now we have them we should be designer for them. Expecting people to walk, cycle, use public transport is unrealistic. I appreciate this may change in time, when oil becomes unaffordable, but whilst we are still building airports worry about that later."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I thought these new houses were to accommodate an increasing population?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

And they will be cluttering up inner city areas right now. so whilst the green field site may see an increase, other areas will see a decrease. A rising working population will generate more cars on the road, not more houses.
I annually contribute 15,000,000 Kg of CO2 to the environment (well, me and a crew plus a load of passengers). I think a few extra cars isnt really a problem. Hoping to recreate the south of france in the south of the UK sometime soon. :T
Stevie, you can ignore housebuilding with a rising population for only so long. Its about time we start to catch up. This also needs to go hand in hand with increased control of who we let into our borders and reductions in benefits funding new people that otherwise their parents could not have afforded.0 -

Good. Glad to hear it, the insults rom one generation towards another are getting tiring.A minority of ageist losers with chips on their shoulders the size of sacks of King Edwards would like to stir one up. What will they do when they reach the age that the Baby Boomers are now ? Change tack and turn their attention to attacking the young ? Or move into static caravans and give their homes to their children ? Or perhaps come to their senses and cringe when they think back to what daft pillocks they were when they were young ?
Oh....

Unless the work moves to these green field sites they will still be cluttering up city centres that's if they can get off the cluttered up b roads in the country.0 -
Condemnation of these proposals is almost universal. Hardly anyone wants more housing near them. So stop getting excited.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
