Well said, there is something rude about people who demand thanks IMO
I can see both sides on this - yes "demanding" is a bit much (tho' I think mrsyorkie was making a reasonable point about manners actually) but at the same time it can be a bit dispiriting to go to the effort and time to post what you think is a good offer for people and then no-one seems to appreciate it.
I had the same thing earlier on - I put up what I thought was a careful post about a free DVD and then the only person who got thanked (when I last looked) was the (highly respected) MSE poster who put a few comments up next!
I took the view of just laughing about it - that's life! I think the way to look at it is that it evens up - I'm sure there are loads of offers I've had out of people here, where I then forgot to thanks - therefore you try to balance it up by giving something back in future.
Isn't that the way we should leave this one - that all the thread posters here and thread viewers may not find the offer appropriate, or wish to press the Thanks button, but that they go away wanting to post up a contribution of their own in the future to help others?
(PS. Now what really is peculiar about MSE is quite how our good old friend funnyguy ever managed to get the number of personal thanks currently listed!:D:D:D:D)0 -
maybe its because I give really useful threads..Doh'0

i have always said thanks to a thread that i have found useful but i dont think i should say thanks for just viewing a thread which is all i have done on this thread...
my email is on 24/7 and i didnt get the survey which you are talking about but i read your thread out of curiosity which most people on MSE do but doesnt mean we have been dragged up because we didnt say thank you...i actually found that comment insulting and personal as it is aimed at everyone who viewed but didnt say thanks...
as for the cigarette survey you commented on, i had already filled in the survey before coming onto MSE so there was no need for me to thank that person either as i already knew about it before they posted it but i still read the thread and all the comments as well as contributed my own comments on there but still no need for me to say thanks to the op of the thread....
i like the majority of people on MSE view most threads out of curiosity and interest and sometimes out of boredom but it doesnt mean we use the information in the thread just because we have viewed it....0 -
^^ oi you, ive just sent you a PM
- thats much more important!!

BF, I am NOT trying to pick a fight, i just found it extremely rude that although 57 people had by then viewed my thread, nobody could be bothered to give one click of a mouse. You can't tell me that all 57 people had not been helped by the thread.
I'm not begging for thanks, and as earlier stated, i am not bothered about my 'thanks' count. What I am asking for is for people to be a little less ill mannered. I guess that this is just too much ask!
I bet you kept hitting the refresh button every few seconds to see how many views you were getting.;) I think you might be a bit to obsessed with getting thanks. I bet if I had posted thanks in a new post but not pressing the thanks button you'd have got really !!!!!! off. That's the first sign.
I know MSE is addictive but moaning after 57 views that you haven't received a thanks is a bit much. There are more important things going on in life frankly!
Even if someone did sign up with them, they're not necessarily going to get a survey invite and even if they did it's likely to be a few days later so why should someone click the thanks button if they don't know if it actually has been of any use?0 -
Just to add to this, there's always the fact that there's SOME folk (like ME!) out there who may not realise that the using of the thanks button is JUST a click. What I mea n is, I never used to use the thanks as I assumed that it would involve writing a message and messing about, then last week I found something REALLY useful to me, so was inspired to click and discovered, HEY!! THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO DO!!!
Now, I admit I'm a lazy cow, but I can't be the ONLY person on here that's not read everything so didn't know about the thanks button!
OK, I'll stop waffling...
Be well, folks0
