  • What exactly is the problem you're having? What is American? What were you trying to do?

  • Maybe I am asking such a basic question that computer technicians don't believe i can be so thick? I am old, that's my excuse. Why, when I went into google chrome for the first time ever, did the screen come up showing New York weather as opposed to London England and all my AOL stuff show American news etc as opposed to the normal English? I remain curious and don't know how to change it.

Are you looking at aol.com instead of aol.co.uk...?

And if you look at the settings in Chrome, is the browser set to "English (United Kingdom)" and not "English (United States)"?
  • Thank you, that's what it was,the settings in chrome were on english(united states) and my AOL was also not set to UK.Sorry if I annoyed anyone:)

Perhaps the OP is referring to the recent problem I have found when typing on these forums - my UK keyboard (yes, it's definitely set to that in Windows) now returns the American character set. It still works perfectly (the UK character set) in Word.

I was trying to type the UK pound sign this morning (Shift 3) and it produced # instead of £ (I has to use Num Lock, Alt 156 to produce the £ symbol).

Anyone any idea why this is happening?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
