The British builders turned up when they felt like it, only worked for a couple of hours when they did, and made a complete pigs ears of the work they did complete. I spent months fighting with them and resolving problems afterwards.
The Polish builders turned up every day at 8am and worked a full day. The work was completed quickly and I haven't had any problems since.
Guess which of these two builders I've recommended to friends and family.
Recommendations are at least as important as prices. If certain builders aren't getting these recommendations, maybe they should start asking themselves why.
For me, undercutting has nothing to do with it (I'd rather pay more for quality work from someone I can trust tbh).
Oh, and the Polish builders never hinted at 'cash-in-hand', so they were probably paying more tax than the British builders.
(Again, this is just my personal experience, I'm not generalizing this to all British builders).
When I worked in the building trade the firm I worked for had to chuck 7 Polish contractors off site because of their forged certificates for heavy duty machinery so it works both ways doesn't it.
Guess who my old firm didnt recommend,0 -

No, I wouldn't, because I'm not racist. If someone else can do my job better than I can, then I've got a problem no matter where they were born nor what colour their skin is. The solution would be to up *my* game and not blame a convenient stranger just because he has a funny accent.
We all compete in a global market and we need to realise that protectionism has never worked and will never work.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

You obviously have a problem with Migrants or are you a Racist as I don't think they've a "funny accent" its their language in their native country.0 -

My what?but it doesn't make much sense to import additional low skill labour when there isn't enough jobs to go round.
Anyway, yes, it's called freedom of movement of labour and it's a good thing. Many UK employers are desperate for people with certain skillsets so please let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Those struggling to find work need to honestly appraise their own skills. Maybe their maths needs work, or their written English, or their analytical skills, so find whatever area you're worst at and improve it, and then move onto the next, and the next.
Trying to close borders to keep out the (jolly impressive!) competition is ultimately doomed.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I think you mean "aren't enough". Can I politely recommend some English lessons as my Polish employees put you to shame TBH.

imho when someone picks up grammer mistakes in a forum argument it means they are losing the argument. did you understand what i meant in my post?
"freedom of movement"? if it's such a good thing why does every country not throw their doors open? the likes of Japan/ South Korea seems a closed shop.....
i bet i earn ever so slighly more than your Polish workers...0 -

You have a problem with the way migrants talk and you change the subject to a English exam.0 -

Just about, yes, but your written English doesn't make it easy.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
