Eww eww I could never do that.0 -
I wouldn't fancy giving them the snip either. What I do is to sprinkle salt on them and they implode.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0

Hi Candy0107
I have a couple of ways of dealing with slugs, I have copper tape right round my raised beds got it cheap last year from betterwear and the beds are also surrounded by plum slate as slugs don't like the sharp sides. This seemed to keep the wee blighters at bay from my veggies, for the rest of the garden I get them off the plant with a stick and drown them.

For seedlings, I have some really cool things which I bought from the Organic Gardening Catalogue a couple of years ago. They look a bit like green plastic plant pots with the bottoms cut out, and you push them down into the soil with the seeds or seedlings inside. The slugs can't get past them or over them. I have found in the past that slugs don't care much about sharp gravel, eggshells, etc. They go under, the cunning little blighters! I have not yet tried copper tape, but I am intending to get some this year for the things I am growing in pots.0

ive been told that if you sprinkle eggshells that have been broken up over the soil it keeps the slugs away as they dont like sharp edges...havent tried it yet but probly will do once my flowers start growin...0

Beer traps work for me exceptionally well.
Pound world sells 2 beer traps for a quid and they are very good.
I have tried them with carling lager in and that works great.
As I do not like giving beer to slugs, on the side of the packaging it says you can put any yeast based liquid in. So I bought some bread yeast from the co-op and mixed it in some water with a little sugar and tried that, this also works.
A couple of night ago , I put a beer trap down in my small front garden and the next day I had 20-30 slugs in it. now that's a result. :T0 -
I use eggshells - dry them in the bottom of the oven, then crush with mallet/rolling pin. Disadvantage is that you need lots for beds.
My best find was soot. They hate to trail through soot and its really effective. Disadvantage is that you need to replace it after rain. But its good stuff! Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

This will only work with seedlings unless you can afford the door mesh to make bigger ones:

Definitely going to try that. :TDry January: 31/31 days. :T0 -
Not too sure if this is the right part of the forum (if not, I aplogise and please move it if necessary)
It's the perfect place - I'll merge this with the existign thread on getting rid of slugs to keep ideas together
