Anyone not doing christmas?

I am not doing Christmas, I have a Crimbo free blog, ha ha. Not buying presents, hope I don't receive any. Not buying loads of extra food, not buying loads of booze, might treat myself to a bottle of wine. Not sending cards, my rellies and friends don't expect one anyway, they know I don't participate. I don't have to do battle in the shops, I don't have to wrack my brains wondering what to give to people, I am hopeless at choosing presents anyway. Don't have to cook a big dinner, stuff my face and feel sick afterwards. It will be a normal size dinner, no meat, but plenty of sprouts, I love sprouts. Don't have a tele so I wont be zonked out looking at rubbish programmes on the goggle box. Will go for a walk instead. Have a nice one, I will.
IlonaI love skip diving.

that is exactly how I feel - I just don't get why people feel that they have to do something for it! As someone said who works in retail, 90% of people hate this time of year - so why not be strong, put your foot down, say you're not doing anything special and avoid the debt!0 -
Hi there,
anyone not doing christmas due to money?
i am not buying any presents for anyone. i have told everyone this and have told them not to buy for me. i appreciate that some people will & i will have the "i feel bad" feeling that i had last year...BUT at the same time..i have warned them.
i feel like if i didnt do it properly & tried to do little presents...i'd feel cheap. so not at all..shows im skint!
We are having a roast dinner at home on the day with just me and DH. got wine discounted through the tesco 3 for £12 + 25% off so we're all set.
i just wondered if it was just us scrooges or if there were other people in the same boat?
Just to say you are not a scrooge. Scrooge was a rich man who just was too much of a skinflint to spend his money. You are not spending money because you don't have it, which is totally different and is very prudent. You are 'doing Christmas' properly. Well done!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

We have bought for our son and his girlfriend ( a microwave, which they needed, between them). I have bought small presents for my birth mother and birth aunt who I have only met for the first time this year. We are giving our son's girlfriend's mother a small gift. When I say small gifts, I mean under £10. No parents (other than the above mentioned) to buy for.
We stopped buying loads of presents in 1980 when my husband went to train to be a teacher. We jsut told everyone we could not afford it. This is the most we have bought for years!
We are house/dog-sitting over Christmas, so there will just be us, so we will do nothing special.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

our christmas is low key. I do send cards but no loads. We do have some decs and a turkey dinner. Most of all we enjoy the time off work and chance to rest.:footie:0

Christmas has always been fairly low-key (no massive amounts spent on pressies etc) here but as I've just (today) been put under notice of redundancy, I've lost the remaining interest in it.

Even looked at the xmas meals planner which DD & OH had worked out and debated scrawling "Porridge" across it... :eek:0 -
You have a meal planner!!!!!!!!!

I might go to church on Christmas Eve and I have an invite to my cousins for Christmas day. It's going to be very low key for me; emotionally 2012 was not a good year for me and this time of the year sort of reflects the fact that for another year I'm single and alone.0

I had my first christmas on my own 24 years ago and it felt odd (no parents and newly divorced) but the following couple of christmas dinners were fine (just another day really with sunday chicken roast dinner)! I didn't fancy going to friends as they all had little uns.
Since remarrying we have had 15 years abroad and thoroughly enjoyed it but last christmas we were at home and I enjoyed a low key day and this years will be even more low key! DH has no enthusiasm or interest and I will put the tree up (when I buy one) and bobs your uncle. Done.
I stopped buying pressies over 24 years ago as I couldn't see the point in buying tutt and my mates were all relieved. DH bought me a cycle for christmas this year as my old one was kn@ckered and I bought DH a couple of books and 8 x bottles of London Pride on offer from Sainsbugs. All sorted.
Sounds like I am fed up with it already but I like to watch the hype and panic and think, yep get on with it, its not my bag at all.

I've bought presents for my children, for my grandchildren, I will send out cards - that's going to be hard signing them just from me instead of me and OH.
But that's where Christmas will start and end for me. Had hoped to spend Christmas day with No 1 son, his partner & little one (just aged 2) - but No1 son has to work and his partner & DD are going to her mum's so I won't be seeing them
No 3 son will be coming down on Boxing Dad for a couple of hours.
It will be the first time that I won't be waking up to being wished Happy Christmas by a loving family and having all the buzz that goes with it. Last year (first Christmas since I lost my OH, I was in USA with DD and her family) it was hard enough, but this year will be hard in a different way.
On the plus side ...I don't have to cook a sodding turkey, and I can watch whatever I want! - so being alone isn't all bad x
I could have been with No 2 son and his family - but I'm also due to work Christmas Eve and Boxing day - after all last year, someone else covered for me xx0
