Kindle Fire in hand luggage on plane?

I have just got a Kindle Fire and would like to use on the plane.

I have seen people with laptops being asked to take out the battery.

Is this required for the Kindle Fire? I have no idea how to remove it.

There is a flight mode available.

Thanks,

Fortyfoot

  • Which airline are you flying with?

I've taken an iPad on as hand luggage with Ryanair and they didn't ask me to do anything special (just take it out of my bag while it goes through the scanner).

I don't think the battery is removable on the Kindle Fire by the way so you wouldn't be able to take it out without tools so I highly doubt they'd request that! You should be fine.

Taken a kindle on BMI, easyjet, and several other airlines. No issues apart from being told to switch it off durign take off and landing.

Presume a Fire would be the same.

I wouldn't leave anything too valuable in the check in luggage, I've heard of ipads and laptops disappearing from suitcases.

I have never been asked to remove a battery although on some laptops its easy and is big enough to hide quite a big explosive in, presume they want to see it hasn't got a blue and red curly wires going to a big alarm clock (remember always cut the blue wire first)

I have been asked to power up a device before so make sure its charged before going through, although as you were planning on using it onboard it will be of course.

In the past I often flew with thomas cook with a laptop, and my sister has flown with them with an ipad. Personally I would never leave delicate electronics or valuables in hold luggage.

  • I have flown with a Kindle, iPad, Netbook and a variety of laptops. Never had any problem.
