Just got a quick question for Skinnylatte. I have started a channel with a few videos just to kick things off. In terms of monetizing videos I know you cannot generate any earnings from videos that have copywritten music on them. But could I make a video using copywritten music (not monetising it) and post it in a few forums to try and raise interest in my other content?
If that makes sense.
I have linked my homepage on my profile, the most recent vid is the kind of thing I will be making, but better of course, I am just starting out.0 -
I thought you couldn't use copyrighted music full stop, whether you have the video monetised or not.
I upload quite a few gaming videos but didn't moetize as it's a fine line as to what you can do as I don't own the game content. It seems that just uploading game footage or playing is not OK, but if you are providing a specific walkthrough or review it's OK. Bit too vague for my liking...0 -
Great guide, Skinnylatte! I had some success on Youtube with about 6,000 views on a video, I couldn't monitise it though because it was a cover of a famous song, so I wasnt able to make a profit on copyrighted material0

Hi there
Just a quick question, how do you get subscribers to your channel ?
I started about 2 weeks ago and I'm up to about 1000 views, but struggling to get subscribers.
Any advise will do?0 -

Do you have annotations on your video? You can put a subscribe button on there at the end of the video asking people to subscribe. (http://www.youtube.com/yt/playbook/en-GB/annotations.html)
Also subscribing to other channels and commenting on other videos, interacting with other users helps, you can simply ask. I have people who comment and ask me to subscribe, I always do. Put your channel link on your public profile here too so we can find your channel.
Promote your videos anyway you can, forums (not here tho!), facebook, twitter, pinterest etc
Don't be tempted to buy subscribers, I think you will probably get penalized at some point.
And time, it takes time to get the ball rolling, just keep chugging away!

I understand that you can do this, I certainly have at least 1 video on my channel that is not monetised because of copywrite, but I make sure I try to lead people to my monetised videos from it with annotations. I think its probably best to avoid using copywrite music if you can do so.
Thanks, hopefully I will be making my second one over the bankholiday, I have an idea for the third too, but need to buy some more blocks for that. And as I dont plan to spend anything on this hobby, I will be selling a couple of items online to fund the purchase first.
Couple of milestones, first subscriber (was not expecting any yet until I had more content), and over 1000 views for my channel.

I just thought I'd share this with you, I had another copyright claim this morning, I must be more careful what I buy on fiverr.com! The email from youtube read as follows
Due to a copyright claim, you are no longer monetising the following YouTube video. It is still playable on YouTube, but the copyright owner could choose to show ads on it. Video title: My Little Pony Birthday Song Rap Style Includes: Visual content Claimed by: Hasbro Studios LLC View claim details: Link to video was here Why this can happen Your video might contain copyrighted content. A copyright claim on a video can prevent you from monetising it. - The YouTube TeamI have removed the video, it wasn't doing that well anywayPay off Car Loan £17,047 £10580 by Christmas 2022
