Taking the micky

Is it just me but is it really nessesary for a job application to have 92 multi choice questions to answer to apply for a crappy min wage job!

Just applied for a job at Staples and had to answer daft questions like, if another store in the group did better than our store would I be A, happy for them B very upset we didn't beat them or C, glad we at least did better than average  I was stuck as there wasn't a "couldn't give a !!!! what your daft targets are, I'm on min wage, pay me better and I might start to care" option.

And loads more like that, it was clear what they wanted you to say, I ended up just clicking random answers.

It's to weed out those who genuinely want a job and those who're only applying to appease JC - after all I'm sure that "crappy min wage job" will pay more than not having a job will.

I got that but when it gives 2 or 3 options and none apply, then they are treating you like an idiot, the truth is I couldn't care less is another store meets it's targets and don't see why I have to lie to get a job. if there was an option to say non of the choices applied then ok but there wasn't.

of course a job is better than none, that is why I applied for it, there are loads others I could have applied for that take only a sec to fire of a CV to meet JSA, in email, but thought it sounds half decent, until I got to the questions that were clearly looking for a certain answer and went on about targets and me being upset if they were not reached, I can understand these questions for the mangers but for min wage emoplees it's taking the !!!!.

You may not care but some people will care...thus you will most likely get weeded out and they will get through.

    Seems to work well....

sorry but I've been in staples and trust me when I say they must have lied on their application :rotfl:

min wage is enough for the employee to be breathing, to expect the level of commitment of an Alan Sugar Apprentice is taking the micky.

Plenty of people wanting to work their way up the ladder in retail even if that person isn't you.

And maybe their current staffing is the reason this has been brought in, so they don't have to take someone else who doesn't care (ie you).

the trouble is, they dont want people working for them who 'couldnt care less'

If I was an employer and I got that attitude from anyone when applying for the job, the application would go straight in the bin.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

trouble is tho I do care but not about whether another store got better results than ours, I am willing to work hard, tun up on time be polite etc etc but all the rest of it is not justified on £6.19, if they are looking for someone to move up the ladder, they need to say that and pay a wage that reflects that.

People wonder why so many are on the dole, maybe if these aplications didn't expect the applicant to lie to get a job there would be less unemployed, as I expect because I answered truthfully up to about the 80th question  then just hit any random buttom as it was only going to be a lie anyway, I doubt I will get an interview, they will now end up with someone willing to lie and not as you put it work up the ladder, lets face it there aren't that many ladders in the country.

A more appropriate option would be all of the above.

Another store does well is good for the group.

we need to find out why we failed to beet them and try harder next time
(NOT EMPLOYING PEOPLE THAT DON'T CARE HELPS)

We are meeting our targets which is good but might be the targets are too low if we beet them and another store does even better.

Depends, if you're also getting rent and council tax benefit it may not. I was on a NMW job years ago and was worse off than many claimants including a mate of mine who has sky - I couldn't even afford a freeview box :o

I get all that but doesn't that level of commitment warrant more than £6.19? if we expect that level from a shelf filler (which is more or less about the level of the job) what are they paying the big money to the big bosses for? seems to me if I have to concern myself with targets and...heres another question I was asked at currys, what would you do if your shift had finished and you were walking out the door putting your coat on,and a customer came up to you, would you A, take your coat of a happily serve the customer, B, tell the customer you had now finished and that another worker will help them or C, tell them you and finished and walk out, clearly they want you to say A, I would point them toward the nearest worker and say jog on dear I'm done for the day, didn't you see me putting on my coat!

sorry but pay peanuts and get someone that puts that much effort in, we all know it's true in most cases, pay more and get better workers, but with so many on the dole employers are going crazy with what they expect but unwilling to pay for it.
