What's wrong with the AA, RAC et al like the rest of us?
How long are you expecting the dealer to follow you around in a limo just in case you have any issues?
You really are making a mountain out of this, you bought a second hand car.
Aside for leasing returns, the main reason people sell cars is because they go wrong a lot so it is traded in. You bought the traded in problem child.
Who genuinely believes the FULL SERVICE AND MOT waffle from second hand car dealers anyway?
Either reject it and ask for your money back or just let them fix it under warranty.0 -
Apples2-if I had called recovery to fix it, it would void the warranty.
I'm not asking for a limo, merely a hire car to cover the period it being repaired. Is that so unreasonable? Considering I have already missed a class, my son has called in to work to explain he can't make it and now my plans for 5 days with my mother once a year are spoiled, I don't think it is an unreasonable request.
Maybe you think I'm rich because it's a Chrysler. No I am not. In fact I am considered to be living in poverty. I saved for over a year to get another car because mine was 15 years old and dying from the nine years of overuse I put it through. I don't have any credit cards and cannot get finance so used all of my savings to get this car. I can't even get a hire car because I don't have a credit card. Do you still think I've been fairly treated?
Thank you pgilc1. I had seen something about that on a search but had no idea of the source. Now I know where to look."The best things in life are free"

You signed up for am extended warranty for which there is no breakdown cover and if you use one, your entire warranty claim is void?
I make/made no reference to wealth, its a car, even expensive when new can be picked up cheaply. I drive a 530D for which I Paid considerably less than it's new price.0 -
Firstly I am not a dealer and normally dont agree agree with their responses (2 have replied on here) but OP I think you are expecting to much.
It has worked for 3 weeks and has gone wrong it happens. cant see VOSA being interested, it was tested 3 weeks ago.
As for a loan car does it say anywhere in the extended warranty that a loan car will be supplied, I doubt it.
Why a Chysler PT? they are one of the most unreliable cars.
It is the weekend so dont know what you expect.
IMO give them a chance to repair at no cost as it has only been 3 weeks and you have a warranty so it shouldnt be wear and tear.
If they dont fix it, then try to use SOGA for rejection, wont be easy though0 -

I would argue that a 'gross failure' like this would be because neither the service or MOT were carried out properly.
You're not getting it are you? Parts fail. Often they fail suddenly. A part has failed. It was working three weeks ago. It has now failed.supermum38 wrote: »
He had the cheek to offer me his 'banger' to get around BUT I would need to pay for insurance to this this. I have not agreed to this and I'm currently waiting for a response for my request that they provide me with a hire vehicle as I imagine this 'banger' will break down too...
You would need to pay to change your own insurance over, which is quite normal. This is usually just an admin fee - if any at all.0 -

No, if you had got the car recovered either to your home or to the garage, then you wouldnt be in the position of risking being at the side of the road somewhere. Breakdown recovery can cost as little as £5 a year, up to maybe £70 for the top cover - if you use the info on the main board that Martin has so kindly compiled.supermum38 wrote: »

Yes, you are being unreasonable. No dealer is ever going to get you a hire car at a cost of £30-£50 to them per day.supermum38 wrote: »

Yes, i do think you are being fairly treated. They've offered you a loan car, they're going to take a look at it for you. I dont see what more they can do at this stage?
I would be VERY VERY careful about entrenching the situation here and getting yourself into the position whereby the dealer either drags the thing out because you've !!!!ed him off OR he lets you go the legal route, which can drag on for months or years.
Key phrases to do that are- "i know my rights"
- "under the sale of goods act..."
- "i'm going to call trading standards"
- "i'm going to go to the local newspaper"
- "my mechanic says i'm entitled to my money back"
- "Consumer Direct says"

So as a motor dealer let me get this right:
You have a broken ABS sensor and possibly a sticky brake caliper?
You can't reject/refuse/ask for refund on these grounds.
The selling dealer has to attempt to fix the car before any refund/rejection can be agreed to.
As is the case, the dealer has ordered the parts and is doing the job next week. the fact the OP is busy next week is meaningless. you'll just have to rearrange the week.
Maybe the OP should take a day off work each week or not plan visits one day per week, just incase something fails on the car? so at least they have a small window available to take the car for repair.
As for breakdown cover making the warrernty invalid - I actually spat my coffee out reading that.0 -
A sticky caliper or faulty sensor is not a gross failure though.
Why didnt you take it back the day after you bought it? Ahh because it wasntr broken then.
The fault happened whilst in your care.
Its a cheap runaround, Your going to have failures. If you wanted a new car from a shiny showroom that give you a newer curtesy car you needed to pay a bit more money.
You take out breakdown cover, If its not a simple roadside fix they will take it to the dealer for you.
But only if you buy the right package.
Dont expect roadside only to take your car anywhere.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks all for your comments.
Here is the latest: The banger he offered (said it was his) was actually a car just p/x ed in today. Er no thanks.
I got 'someone' involved and the result is apologies and a promise the car will be repaired and returned to me Monday. The manager was 'very disgruntled' with his salesman's attitude to the situation. If the car is not fixed Monday, I will be given a temporary vehicle.
I have recovery BUT I drove it home and that was when I noticed the smoke pouring out from the wheels. The recovery service would not come out unless I wanted them to try and make it driveable. Does it not say on the warranty that 'any repairs not carried out by our authorised agent will invalidate the warranty'? also it says 'if you knowingly drive the vehicle with a fault' this invalids the warranty. I was not prepared to risk driving it to the workshop in the next town, and if they have a workshop then surely they have a towtruck???
While searching online I found a statement: 'any fault found on a vehicle within 6 months can assumed to be have been present when the vehicle was bought'. Are brakes not tested in an MOT or when serviced?
As for SOGA- it says 'should not inconvenience the customer' can be translated as providing a courtesy vehicle. And finally, while searching online I have found a number of warranty companies that include a specified 'courtesy car' at a much lower price than the extended warranty offered by the dealership-even with specific additions for your vehicle like turbo and A/C.
Just to clarify. The warning lights came on 16 days after purchase, 21 days after MOT and service. suspicious... me thinks.
The result. A very disappointed customer who will never go to a dealership unless highly recommended. A salesman who will probably lose a number of customers and probably a job. Admittedly the one thing I did not highlight was the attitude of the salesman towards me. Funny how things turned around when I got a man involved."The best things in life are free"

Yes your right, it's tricky planting these timed to fail components on cars and setting the warning lights to come on weeks after the car is sold. Probably a conspiracy too that the brakes worked fine for weeks and then failed at the most inconvenient time for you.
As you are now laughingly interpreting law to suit your wishes and also falling for the "Managers" feelings I guess that's why you were offered the worst smoker in the yard.0
