On what basis are you expecting her to be able to get her money back?

And can you point me to the statutory law that says she entitled to compensation for her inconvenience?

Oh and if Bugsy can answer this please, rather than some other internet expert. I'm curious to know what his actual understanding of the law is.

You may abide by the law my love but I certainty don't when or if I get stitched up I take the law into my own hands.

No one would ever get away with taking me as a mug especially when money is involved.

Just to clarify. The warning lights came on 16 days after purchase, 21 days after MOT and service. suspicious... me thinks..

    Are you for real?

When would you like to warning lights to come on then?

They are there to tell you there is a possible fault somewhere.

Yes brakes are tested for the MOT, but only the efficiency at the actual time of the test. The tester will also have a quick spy to see the thickness of the pads too.

The car has a fault, we established the garage are fixing it in the first post. They also did what they could regarding keeping you mobile ie lending you a car. It might not have been pretty, but at least it was a car.

We once lent someont an old Scorpio. They were horrifed at it as it had covered 325,000 miles. Yet once they'd driven it, they were happy with it as the thing had been used as a chauffeur car.

So lets get this straight. We've established the car development a fault over two weeks after purchase. The sellers have offered a loan car, in fact, have now said they will have the car repaired and returned by monday evening.

But you would take the law into your own hands?

    Brilliant.

    Thanks all for your comments.

Here is the latest: The banger he offered (said it was his) was actually a car just p/x ed in today. Er no thanks.

Whats the issue? I doubt on a Saturday he had many choices with regards to getting you a car with tax and MOT on it. So whats the problem?

I have recovery BUT I drove it home and that was when I noticed the smoke pouring out from the wheels. The recovery service would not come out unless I wanted them to try and make it driveable. Does it not say on the warranty that 'any repairs not carried out by our authorised agent will invalidate the warranty'? also it says 'if you knowingly drive the vehicle with a fault' this invalids the warranty. I was not prepared to risk driving it to the workshop in the next town, and if they have a workshop then surely they have a towtruck???

I dont think i've come across ANY motor dealers who have a tow truck.

While searching online I found a statement: 'any fault found on a vehicle within 6 months can assumed to be have been present when the vehicle was bought'. Are brakes not tested in an MOT or when serviced?

You do know that faults can just 'happen' right? Things go wrong. Its a mechanical device.

As for SOGA- it says 'should not inconvenience the customer' can be translated as providing a courtesy vehicle. And finally, while searching online I have found a number of warranty companies that include a specified 'courtesy car' at a much lower price than the extended warranty offered by the dealership-even with specific additions for your vehicle like turbo and A/C.

Translated 'in your opinion'. And therein lies the grey area.

You're not grasping how cars work are you?

The result. A very disappointed customer who will never go to a dealership unless highly recommended.

So the sales manager should really just have told you to sod off then as you still dont think they did enough anyway? He sorted you out on a saturday afternoon, yet you're still not happy?

A salesman who will probably lose a number of customers and probably a job.

I would very much doubt anyone will lose their job. Salesmen 'sell'. The Sales Manager merely sold you a solution to get you off his back. I am sure he feigned how annoyed he was with the saleman. Its what they do with difficult customers - they get you on their side. They'll probably have a chortle about it over coffee on monday morning.

Admittedly the one thing I did not highlight was the attitude of the salesman towards me.

IF you approached the salesman with the same attitude as you came on here with, i can understand how you got a negative reaction.
