Oh dear, I have fallen out with Tesco!

I get a grocery delivery from Tesco once a fortnight and normally have a lovely delivery guy, really helpful and courteous.

Today we had a new guy, he immediately annoyed my neighbour by wheeling the trolley thing across his lawn, he's a very keen gardener and likes his garden pristine. Anyway neighbour who is 80 odd came out and said 'Hey, young man (in a jovial way), would you mind using the path for deliveries?' So young Tesco man spins round and says 'what's your problem mate?', my neighbour just said 'could I ask you to use the path, no harm done', and returns to his house.

Young Tesco man says to me 'I can't deliver to you if your neighbour threatens me', I said 'he did not threaten you but if you feel that way, call the police or your manager' and then he said 'I don't have to put up with this' took the shopping away!!!

Rang head office and they spoke to the store, the driver had already been in touch and they believe his version of events and I've been told they will no longer be delivering to me as my neighbour was, in their words 'verbally abusive'.

They are arranging a refund and I'm not asking for compo for distress due to lack of shopping.....I'll simply take my business to one of the others.

Quite funny looking back, I've never had my shopping removed from me!

However, my neighbour saw the funny side and knocked on the door after tesco guy left and said 'he's a bit funny that man, I think he was foreign'

  • It's their loss, I think Sainsbury s are doing a deal of £12 off your first order at the moment. My mum had a flyer with the offer so it might be worth a look.
  • Exactly, I'm not a huge shopper, maybe £60 a fortnight so they'll hardly miss my custom anyway.
Interesting about the Sainsburys offer, I will see if it is on in our area as that would be a useful offer to use.

Id be tempted to put a complaint in writing to HO, its all on file then for the next person he treats that way.

Ocado are doing good offers on a first shop too at present. Nothing but praise for their drivers. Courteous, helpful. Can't fault them at all.

Yea, I'd be spitting chips if this happened to me and I would write a letter of complaint to HO pronto. Don't let them get away with it.

This driver won't last long because he'll have the same kind of thing happen again and again. They'll soon see the pattern of one driver having lots of problems with the public and realise that he's the one who is trouble.

I would be tempted to write to them and say that you would like an apology when they finally realise just who is the problem.

I bet you don't get this with Waitrose.

Tesco did a similar thing to me. They barred me from grocery shopping with them online because my 9 yr old made a comment about their terrible substitutions during a delivery where 19 items out of 58 were subbed. I rang Head Office and their reply was to bar me from shopping at Tesco Direct and from my local store. lol. Luckily I can see the funny side! Have been shopping elsewhere since and not had any problems. :)
  • I've fired off an email & a letter of complaint I'm just about to post. I'm not asking for anything just basically outlining what happened and how disappointed I am in their reactions to the situation.
I can't say I won't ever shop in Tesco again because it won't wash and it's not true because they are the closest supermarket to me.
I've done an asda shop now and it's coming between 7-9am tomorrow so I'm not hugely inconvenienced either but just a bit amazed by the drivers behaviour but as was said he'll do it again I am sure

    Yes - do that!
  • I think writing is a good idea as I'm sure he will come to grief again and hopefully they will acknowledge this to you
