Oh I got the impression whilst on the trip, no grattitude or thanks were offered.0

Awful, ok you won the prize but you still choose to take her, that's a compliment in my book; she doesn't deserve you, she's a miser for sure, just keep it in mind not to do her any favours in future.0

As a comper I do think some people don't feel they have to be grateful if you got something free. I have seen that response several times. I remember giving some Chanel make-up I won to a friend who loves high-end cosmetics, but was unemployed and going through a bad time. She didn't even thank me! I think she assumed I was giving them away because I didn't like them not because I was trying to be nice. I wish I'd kept them! A friend who has cashed in her Tesco clubcards points and used the vouchers to take friends to dinner has had a similar "you're getting it free so why should I be grateful" reaction. Err, because she could have spent them on herself instead.[/QUOTE]katie_saver wrote: »In fact she complained a lot...too cold (it's November and not the Carribean), too French (??! we were in Paris...) and too expensive (again - we were in Paris!!).:p
She sounds a right moaning minnie! I can't abide people like that. As others have said maybe she didn't realise how expensive Paris was (I cannot believe anyone would assume a touristy city would be cheap though), but you still don't moan all the time. I have been in that situation and have always been determined to still enjoy myself.0 -

If i was your friend, and you'd treated me to first class travel to Paris, then the least i would have done is bought you lunch, drinks, coffee etc, i cannot believe some people think its ok to not do so, surely this is basic manners, my friend drove me 5 mins somewhere on saturday night, and i bought her drink to say thank you........
I agree with this postVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I won 2 tickets to see Gwyneth Paltrow in theatre in London 10 years ago. I invited a friend from work as my daughter was a baby and OH had to look after her! we were a bit rushed after work, but we nipped into a posh bar and she insisted on buying me a glass of champagne. Still makes me smile -I'd never have done spent that much - or even ordered champagne- not sure what my point is here as in this case I felt I was the one being treated! I guess you tried to brighten someone's day - isn't too much to ask they brighten yours back, even with a note or bottle of wine or whatever. live and learn!0

Its soooo petty for a friend to ask to split a couple of euros in my book when you have treated them to a trip - you could easily have taken someone else.
I have a friend who is totally tight, I dont often go anywhere with her, instead have drinks, dinner in etc as she wont to tips, has to pay for her meal exactly is she suddenly decides splitting is to her cost by a couple of pounds. While she is a great friend, I really detest meanness.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0
