Sounds like your friend just feels entitled to stuff.
I know someone like that - she's a foreign bride, and her English husband has now spent over a quarter of a million buying stuff for her family over a period of 5 years. This is not including the money she gets for personal use.
She spends the money like water, but yet also moans at her husband at spending too much time at work. She fully expects him to entertain her all the time. Lol.
I must confess to being startled at this, as my attitude would be that if the deal is that he's earning all this money for you to spend and dispense to your extended family, then this is what he needs to do to get the money. It's silly to stress the golden goose.
But yet, this "entitled princess" syndrome seems to work for her. I'm still rather nonplussed, but can see that it works for her!0 -
It sounds like, from what you've said, that your friend is a bit penny-pinching generally. So if she said thanks to you for inviting her along, I don't honestly think you could expect anything more from her, knowing her as you do.0

And by the way, she only said thanks when I invited her, not a peep of thanks whilst we were there. In fact she complained a lot...too cold (it's November and not the Carribean), too French (??! we were in Paris...) and too expensive (again - we were in Paris!!).:p
Think I'm all ranted out now and feel a lot better :cool:
Merci!0 -
it sounds like she didn't really enjoy the trip, I'm sure she'll not be expecting you to invite her again

Think about what a considerate friend you're being by not subjecting her to any further horrible uncomfortable expensive excursions.:D0 -

You've been to Paris quite a few times. Your friend hadn't.
You knew it would be expensive because it is Paris. I'm guessing your friend didn't.
You spent what you expected to spend. She spent more than she expected to spend.0 -
The fact that the friend said the OP owes her 1 Euro 50 is why I understand the OP's fustration.
Personally I think the friend lacks certain etiquette, I'd have definitely shouted the OP to a drink or lunch, as I'd have been very happy to have been chosen to share the winning prize with.
I also see how all actual cost items were paid 50/50 then I'd have just let it go, put it down to lack of etiquette, but because the friend said she actually owed HER, that say's alot more about the friend's character than the OP's.
@OP
let it go, don't ruin a friendship over this, but definitely remember in future, and take someone else next time:p:p0 -
oh and those saying the friend is penny pinching, well MANNERS cost nothing.0
