I was on a dangerously overcrowded train today. I'm usually fit and active but I am in remission from cancer and do quite often feel very tired. Added to this I have a shoulder and an ankle injury at the moment and my cancer site hurts when I'm very tired. By the first station I was in tears of pain and almost doubled over because the train was so crowded I couldnt even sit on the floor but all those in the seats just gawped at me. However the priority seats had been reserved and there was clearly no chance of me getting one - I think its a bit unfair these seats can be reserved by people who dont need them.

Priority seats can be reserved? Doesn't that rather undermine their point?

I wonder what the railway's policy is wrt the person who reserved the seat vs a disabled/elderly (lets not mention pregnant :P) person who needed it? I hope the conductor would support the person in most need.

if we were to believe the Mayans, the world ends this month. So don't you worry about all those rude people! Just have your fun!
But seriously, I find that people in bigger cities are more rude and impolite (London, Manchester, Liverpool, etc) compared to smaller cities and towns.

Yeah, just be lucky that you even have public transport.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

That's really rude of the girl! You can't reason with people like that I'm afraid, but I hope she felt bad later on.

I don't give up my seat voluntarily any more after after I offered my seat to a "pregnant" woman who turned out jut to be fat and started yelling at me! However, if someone asked, I'd definitley give the seat to them.

They most certainly can as I have been in them myself as a reserved seat. As it happened last time I was in one I was only 5 weeks post op and still very much incapacitated so yes then it was useful but of course thats not always the case.

On the train I was on there was naturally no conductor to be seen  but I would have said something if there had been...

Im on my 3rd pregnancy and always took the bus to work. I would not ask anyone to give up their seat as they paid for ticket but I would hope someone would offer. If not I just stood as it would be just as rude to ask people to move on my behalf.

I've been pregnant 4 times and that's how I feel. And i'd readily give up my seat for someone, without being asked, who was obviously pregnant , but if she demanded that I get off the seat I wouldn't be so inclined to do so for some reason. I hate the feeling of entitlement that some people seem to have.

A couple of months ago a drunk couple got on the train during rush hour. She was standing there and saying loudly over and over again that no one was giving her the priority seat when she clearly needed it (don't think they're meant for drunks!). In the end someone offered their seat just to shut her up, but she then kept thanking the woman over and over.
