ok, thought I would set myself a list of things to achieve today, so that I do not spend most of my day here on MSE.:o
1) Ring my mum
2) Tidy around morning mess
3) Bake a cake
4) Make Bread and Butter Pudding out of left over ends of HM bread.
5) Sort out washing
6) Prepare something for dinner out of left over joint of ham
That will do for this morning, will check back in a see what I have achieved later.
Hope you all have a good day. xxx0 -
Hi Steph
Just had a wee read of your diary and thought I'd join you on your journey! We have similar amounts of debt and am sure 2012/2013 we can knock off loads just by using MSE and all the support on here

Thanks Dd,
Have you started a diary?. I will have a look in a minute.
Its great to have people in a similar situation to me, joining in. It does'nt feel so lonely then and it makes me feel abit less stupid, knowing that others have made the same mistakes and we are trying to solve our problems together.
Its such a slow journey though, I just want to fast forward to February and see my overdraft shrinking.
All I can see at the moment is bill bill bill taking over my overdraft limit .
Look forward to chat more soon xxx0 -
Just signed up and answered a million questions on CLIK Research. Not sure if many studies will come in but hoping to get some freebies and maybe a tiny bit of money from surveys.
worth a try x0 -

Ok so have achieved a few of my things today.
Have ordered a Cash for Gold bag as well. I Sorted through my jewellery and have a small pot of broken / unwanted gold that might bring in a few ££.
I also have a few gold rings and a bracelet that my gran gave me for a rainy day. Its kind of a rainy year at the moment so tempted to sell it. Haven't really got a clue how to sell jewellery. Found a few very similar to it on Ebay for around £400-£500 but as I can't really read the hallmark very well I guess maybe I ought to take it to a jewellers and get it valued.
Hate to do it, but the bracelet isn't anything I would ever wear and granny said that I was to sell it if life got tough
Have eaten a bowl of left over cheese and ham pasta for lunch.
It have put all the crusts from making the bread and butter pudding in a bowl soaked with hot water. I will put that out for the birds in abit. Nothing gone to waste. Very thrifty
Guess most of you MSE'ers are at work so see you all later xx0 -

Hi Bobarella & anyone else out there
Finished my list of things. Made a vanilla Traybake and have got ham, egg, HM Actifry chips and beans cooking as we speak.
Ds has TaeKwonDo tonight, thankfully that won't cost me anything except abit of petrol.
Has been a NSD thankfully, although going to be slightly trashed tonight as a local smallholder friend has some minced beef for me. 2kilo's for £11. Not too bad I guess but I could do without the expense. oh well - will make quite a few meals out of that so its not me being frivilous.
Nothing much else to report, except I have a bad stiff neck, probably an MSE neck from trawling this site too long. haha
Speak to you all later xx0 -
Your cake baking is making me hungry. I understand the presents thing. My dd is 13 now and pink cute and cuddly just doesn't cut it anymore!
Well done with your money saving plans anyway.Current debt: barcc £2986, HSBC cc £2307 now £0 Sant cc£3875 now £0 virgin cc £5492 now £0 tesco cc £1600 next £265 now £151, WFTC £545 now £195

StressedSteph wrote: »The trouble is as they get older, they want more expensive presents. Which means it cost more and more to provide the toy mountain.
The trouble is that the Ipod's were £140 each, Wii games are £25+ each, so even though I have spent £200 each, it will look like a tiny amount of toys.
This is part of the problem - kids really have absolutely no idea how much things costand the amounts spent can just get to ridiculous levels.
Think back to your childhood ....... now - make a list of every birthday and Christmas and write down what present you got that year..... bet you can't get many!
So ... they don't even remember anyway! (apart from if it's an extra special one - the only one I could write down was a bike I got for my 7th birthday) and don't need piles and piles of expensive stuff.
If you need to get "volume", then get things like puzzles, games the family can play together, books etc etcGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
Morning all,
You are right Rising, anyway, I have no choice this year. I am usually buying presents from the overdraft but this year even the overdraft can't handle it. So I am going to have to toughen up. I have told them that if they really wanted an Ipod Touch then they won't be getting much else. Can't say I did'nt warn them.
Today I am going to get up in to attic. Every year I spend a fortune on Christmas cards and wrapping paper, only to find when I get the decorations down, that I have tonnes of left over stuff in there.
We don't put the decs up till after my daughters birthday on the 14 Dec, so I have usually bought all the cards and wrapping by then.
NOT THIS YEAR......typically I will probably find that there isn't much up there this year .
My £2 savings pot did'nt last long. I found 1 £2 last weekend, but DS has a school trip to Bristol today and needed £2 to take with him. Neither me or hubby had any money in our purse/wallet so had to raise the £2 jar....Grrrrrrr. Will start again now....
Hope you all have a good day. xxx0
