Oo thank you! I just found the link under terms and conditions at the bottom...

It arrived on Tues, so I havent got long to return it. I know I wouldnt be happy wearing it as I don't like the look of the stone, so better to return it than suck it up and keep it!

And I didnt receive any email confirmation, just the invoice that came with it that mentions nothing of refund etc.

I will call them in a bit, will update with what they say. I wouldnt say its a custom made ring - they may be a bit difficult but we'll see..

How about you ask them to replace the stone with one that looks more like the picture or you'll reject it as it is not as advertised?

It is NOT a custom made ring (from what you have told us).

And if they haven't informed you of your cancellation rights then you have up to* 3 months and 7 working days to ADVISE THEM of your intent to cancel under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations. (You don't need to have returned it within 7 days, just notified them. I'd suggest ringing them then following this up with an email).

They must refund you (well, the buyer actually) within 30 days, regardless of whether the product has been returned. (Although its unlikely that any company would refund without having received the goods).

    * 7 working days following the later of:
x Receipt of goods (assuming cancellation rights were advised in pre-contract materials, like an order acknowledgement email)
x Receipt of notification of cancellation rights
    x 3 months

Day 1 is the day AFTER the relevant item above.

Thanks - I have called them and asked for a refund - they asked what the problem was, and said 'so you would prefer a stone that is a lighter colour as in the pic'.. they said they'd call back, don't know if they're going to offer to replace the stone or process a refund, we'll see!

the ring in the pic looks gorgeous - your husband must love you very much

    :happyhear

i think they will prob offer a ring with a lighter coloured stone, good luck
  • OP, once you return it (and I really think you should for that kind of money), I would advise that you (or your lovely husband - what a nice gesture) join the PriceScope forums (website has the same name) where people can advise you on getting the best, genuine deal. As it's a coloured diamond you want, you might ask in either RockyTalky (for buying white/clear diamonds) or the Colored Stones forum (for buying gemstones). The users there are great - give them your budget, tell them what you want (though you might have to compromise), and they'll help you find something.

Thanks - I will have a look, I usually like to research what I buy before I buy it!

So they called me back and said they would issue a refund - phew - and there I was thinking I would have to quote DSR etc etc..

I think in future I will buy jewellery like that in person, I had a similar problem when buying my engagement ring, you'd think I'd learnt my lesson!

Thanks everyone for your advice :)

Further to this thread regarding this online jewellery shop:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4303253

I returned the diamond ring almost 2 weeks ago now. I've called them 3 different times about the refund, and each time they said they would call me back that day and each time never bothered to do so.

What is the process for getting our money back now, should I email them, do I need evidence of our exchanges? We paid using our credit card if it helps.

I would never recommend this site, they use pics that are not representative of the items, fob me off each time I call and don't call back despite promising to do so within the day - Im so annoyed with this company! AND they are holding a large chunk of my money that they have no right to!:mad::mad:

    Good luck :)

  • To be honest, the one in the picture has been back lit which is why it looks pale in the middle where as if you look at the edges where the light will have been reflected away from the camera you can see it is a very dark colour.

I dont know anything about blue diamonds and so I dont know what colour is considered desirable as with some stones/ colours lighter is the preferred and with others the darkers are.

Given it is a stepped cut rather than brilliant then it is going to be a much flatter effect. My wife's engagement ring is an emerald cut (emerald and assher are the same cut just one square and the other rectangular) and so also doesnt have the "sparkle" of a brilliant cut but when a facet does catch the light then its a much bigger effect. I am not sure that a stepped cut is the best for dark coloured stones as you'd want to maximise the light going through them.

Stones come in a wide range of colours, ultimately diamond should be clear and colour is created by imperfections (but in fancy diamonds they are regular imperfections) and so a lower density of the imperfection the weaker the colour.

Personally I would be concerned with the price paid too as the ring itself with side stones is going to be around £500 and £1700 for a 1c stone even with SI1 is just exceptionally cheap if it is a certified stone
