  • My camera has a setting for taking pictures of documents, just a little Samsung PL120 compact. Might be worth considering for next time :)

Which Mac does not read PDF's then?

I was trying to think of a reason why OP's laptop could not read pdf files. I don't have a Mac myself but obviously they do handle pdf !

I am still puzzled that OP cannot read pdf files, unless she has not loaded Adobe Reader. Or it has failed to load properly for some reason in which case it would be worth uninstalling from her laptop and reinstalling and trying again. pdf files are widely used so it seems a real handicap if your pc cannot read them.

Only other point of interest would be the size of the scanned tiff files. If the files are inordinately large (ie 100's of mb) then this might be a problem but this is a long shot.

Any PC wil run Adobe Reader. OP needs to install the latest version suitable for their OS, and uninstall all older versions.

For PDFs ... Just uninstall Adobe and reinstall it (Acrobat Reader). Or use one of the other options suggested.

How much RAM does your PC have? (Win+Pause will give you an info window which will tell you).
  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe but it still doesn't work, on my main laptop and my notebook.
  • Just a thought - is it trying to open up in the wrong programme? On one of my computers something happened and it started trying to open PDFs in my photography programme, I now have to right-click on the file I want to open with in Adobe PDF and tell it to open the file with Adobe PDF IYSWIM.

  • My PDF files open in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. How do you open via PDF in a different programme?

Download and install Foxit reader from here

That should sort out your file association problem and it is far better than acrobat reader.

Wow, thanks, this programme works, its opened a PDF file from the Internet which I can't normally read but my tiff files on the disc are still saying running out of space so what can I do about those? Cheers.
  • What size are the tiff files on the disc ?
