  • Hello,

I have toad in the hole cooking for tea tonight, however as its just me I have quite a bit of batter left. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about how to use it? And how long it will last for? Can I freeze it?

    Thanks

as its raw eggs I would use it within a couple of days personally. the above suggestions are good. you could also use it as a coating batter for fish or chicken for deep frying.

Yorkshire pudding with golden syrup pured over.
Sausage popovers - chopped frankfurters in bun tins with batter poured over and cooked as for toad but not as long.
Batter should keep up to three days in the fridge

You can freeze the batter as it is and then take it out, defrost and use it as normal! I did this the week before last and the yorkshires were just as good as the first time.

  • make a dessert my mum used to call stodge and custard - I've never seen it anywhere, ever, possibly because it's so chavtastic no one would admit to making it up, but is, like most of the food we had as a kid, cheap and it filled you up. battered deep fried jam sandwiches. I can feel my arteries hardening at the thought......

I usually make pancakes with leftover batter. You can freeze them.

Ahh! Poor Knights of Windsor, a recipe dating from at least the 17th century, using marmalade instead of jam,and dipped in beaten egg rather than batter.
If I'm over the hill, where was the top?

    Hi fiona,

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the existing one on using leftover toad in the hole batter to keep the suggestions together.
