foreign body in cakes from asda

Purchest a box of 4 egg custards from asda for my wife and i.:j
Made a cup of tea for us both and sat down to watch the telly with a cake each in hand to enjoy,:p i took the first bite of my cake, at the same time my wife bit into hers, i glanced at the cake as i pulled it away from my mouth and to my horror saw a large black substance what looked like a cokerouch at first.
I turned to my wife who was already chewing her first bite and told her to check hers when she looked at hers she imedietly vometed:eek: the same substance was in her cake too. She was also sick the next day. To try and cut a long story short, i took them back to asda were it was recorded and sent back to there supplyers for tests. I received a letter of apology and a £10.00 gift card :rotfl:and was told it had been identified as possible oven build up.:( And an explination how egg custards are made, Nice:( Should we seek the advice of a solicitor.

What harm did it ACTUALLY do to you?

And what do you think you are entitled to beyond the £10 gift card (which you are not entitled to by law)?

I think he has already explained what happened after his wife ate the cake.
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

Do the solicitors round your way know how egg custards are made?

    If not, I wouldn't bother.
  • so are you saying it's OK to have unknown substances in food in supermarkets. and nothing can be done about it. And since i am not entitled to the £10.00 gift card mmm BY law do you think i should send it back.

    Yeah I can read.

My point is, what is the cost of that event?

    Coulda Woulda Shoulda.

Lets not make the UK the same excessive compensation culture of the US please!
  • Yes I'm aware that you can read and I have no doubt that you are a very good reader.
When you said what harm I was not aware you meant what cost. To me it sounded like if you wanted to know if it caused any health issues.

They have said its oven build up from their investigations, so it is known. And if that is the case, its unlikely to cause instant vomit, that sounds more like a gut reaction to what it could have been (and that would tie in with your initial reaction that it was a cockroach (why do people always have to think the worst?))

What exactly do you want to do about it?

No you don't have to send the £10 gift card back, but your opening post is worded (and smilied) very much like you believe the offer is derogatory.

So what exactly are you expecting?
