Do I need a soup maker?

I have! Me! Me! I've used a microwave pressure cooker. Mum gave me her cheap one when she decided it was not really any good and she wanted a better one. (Why she thought I would want one that was no good is beyond me LOL.) So, anyway, she went on to buy an expensive one to replace it with and surprise, surprise it was still unutterably carp!
I've also used a soup maker and, while I guess they do an OK job my personal opinion is that you're much better off cooking it in a pan with a well fitting lid then using a stick blender.
(I no longer do any of the above as I have a Thermomix: wash veg, place in machine, press buttons and soup in 7 minutes... like a soup maker but so much more!)
Do you actually have a hob? Or are your options constrained by a lack of one?
You got your answer here, LadyDee0 -
I do not want a slowcooker or a pan on the hob. Oh, I give up - I'll buy a microwave pressure cooker and see for myself.
Without a slowcooker LadyDee you're missing out on one of the better kitchen gadgets.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

No I'm not - I wouldn't use it. It's the best thing for cooking meat - I'm a vegetarian.
Not just meat, anything.
I make a lot of soups but i also do lots of casseroles and currys all without meat, just using veges and lentils. Fill it up of a morning and come home to a hot meal.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

If you are going to get narky, when people are telling you that the gadgets are a waste of time and money, then go ahead and waste money. There is no need to be so rude!Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I thought the same. Rude. And she didn't even bother to acknowledge daska who does have a microwave pressure cooker, as does her mum and they are both rubbish!0 -

How about a normal hob pressure cooker? Absolutely the best thing out there for cooking dried beans and pulses, it's usually only on the hob for 20 minutes or so no hours of endless bubbling and steam and it's absolutely ideal for soup.
I use a pressure cooker for soup and, very rarely, a stick blender. I don't like pureed soup, I like soup with bits. My main worry with a microwave pressure cooker would be the capacity. We're a family of four and I tend to make 12 portions of soup at a time, I doubt that would fit in a microwave pressure cooker.
Alternately I also sometimes used to make stock/soup in the oven, if I had it on for something else and wanted to utilise the otherwise waste space. I loathe and despise my slow cooker tbh, it makes everything taste of school dinners. So I use the oven a lot for casseroles and there was room in my big oven to put another casserole dish underneath with soup or rice pud or whatever.Val.0 -
A soup maker is just another dust gathering gadget.
Use the slow cooker and a hand blender - job done.
PS. Bad nads...snurk...chortle, chortle :rotfl:infantile I know, but love it
I was also about to buy a soup maker but I think you are right. I better buy the slow cooker and a hand blende.0 -
Saucepan and stick blender for me, it doesnt take that long to make soup. I do love my slow cooker and for those out all day thats a great option too but really do not see a problem with a saucepan on the hob. Never had a problem with steam in all my born days!!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
