Fully agree there!!! Its also has the highest number of girls who aren't really looking and just want a ego boast of someone being interested in them

Not aimed at yourself by the way, just another geralastion

Could say the same about guys on there :p

I've been on there and also know friends who have been or are on there now. Seems to be the new place to pick someone up for a one night stand instead of a club on a weekend

After several not amazing dates I've given up, time to look in 'real life' surely theirs an old style way of meeting interesting people

Lol, I'd agree but it seems looking the old fashioned ways gets tainted by modern ways of thinking what is right lol.

I've had some shocking dates off there, and OkCupid - not to mention the messages.

It does seem to be the way people go to get a 'thrill' or a 'proper think' lol:rotfl:

Good luck in the real world, let us know how it goes on

I'll probably be hunting for a while, but oh well :D

Not tried ok cupid, tried some others which all seemed much the same I guess

Even allowing for typos, I don't get what that word is supposed to be?

    Edit: Got it! Generalisation?

In me experience POF is full of men who seem to think that they can get a much younger girl. They have no interest in women of a similar age - post a photo of themselves without even combing their hair (if they have any)

I accept that I might not be everyones cup of tea, and that there must be some sort of attraction in the first place but OMG ! the barrel of dross that seems to live near me.

I long ago reached the opinion that internet dating was not the way forward but for some reason I still keep looking.

Hey ho - someone out there for everyone or so they say.

    Good Hunting everyone.

and another pet hate of mine...when someone younger than me says they are 'retired'..... its not as if they have had a well paying job. I'm sure they mean unemployed.

I do think both sexes need to understand better the difficulties of online dating.

With guys they seem to still be expected to make first contact and often need to send out a lot of messages to get much response (as many women are on there for an ego boost!... Well... that's what I say to keep my hopes up haha)

Vice versa, women surely have to trawl through a lot of rubbish and the message may get lost... and many guys on there are just after one thing! (This actually then makes it harder for "us"... the genuine guys... as a lot of women I talk to seem skeptical!)
Dammit, I got my hopes up that I meet someone then.

I'm always too late to the party :rotfl:

    x

ps Just in case, I'm female, 30, live in wales! ;)

There is another thread on here about online dating which people mingle, maybe check it out? They can give out some good advice!

It seems a few people are taking the thread title quite literally...

I don't think everyone noticed the original sarcasm ;)

i just want someone to play with not marry them, but have high standards

POF will be perfect for you then! If you're willing to sift through all the rubbish you get. A lot of people are after *fun* ;)

I'm 28 and single and plenty of fish is full of no hopers or pervs

It's not "full" of them, I can confirm that there is at least one (maybe two or three) good guys on there ;)

A lot of guys on there are after a quickie, correct... but so are the girls.

I doubt a lot of guys are on there for their ego boosting though, as girls are? (Maybe I am wrong)

Give it time! You have to sift through a lot of rubbish first to find the gems (same for both genders!)

Must be an age thing! I've got a little bit of space to date someone younger but if I went too far I'd be in trouble!

How do you know they're not retired? ;)

You know - you are right - it would be nice for the man to get in touch first.

But as a woman, when I do make the first contact I always feel as if my message might be lost in a huge number of other messages from much prettier, younger (and thinner) things. Perhaps thats my lack of confidence.

I have a friend who met his girlfriend on a dating site, he keeps telling me to keep looking, That as contacts on the internet are just fleeting and dont mean anything that you can't offend anyone. I dont really agree as there is always a bit of anticipation involved in contacting someone just in case they like you as well.

And after my last post - perhaps they are retired and possibly I am passing over lots of very rich younger men...but seeing as I have to work until I'm 67 I dont really want to leave someone at home.

I think there needs to be a compromise though. My view on it is (and I think this is on my POF profile) is that we are all here looking for that special someone, so if you like hat you see to message the person! If not, what if the guy never sees your profile? What a waste of a potentially amazing life together!

Therefore I say... Women... Go for it! :)

Don't over think things. I've had messages from a couple of very aesthetically pleasing women, but they have the conversation skills of a fish... If you don't try you'll never find out!

Sadly, with my age, I'll be around 85 before I get to retire!!

The comment about the 'retired' was a little tongue in cheek, I do agree with you :)
