Recommendatio for online film package please?

Okay, first can I say that I have done a search, and I have also googled, so if I have missed something obvious, please be kind :D

The situation is that I am about to have surgery and will be laid up for some time. So I decided I would treat myself to a kindle fire HD so I can stream movies to watch in bed. Seems simple - the Kindle HD is a media device right? And the main purpose, as I understand it, is for amazon to make money selling films, music, books etc, right?

Well I am not interested in the Fire for books (I have a perfectly good kindle keyboard), and I already use amazon cloud player on my phone to play music.

What I want it for is streaming movies. I had a look at lovefilm instant, but to be honest their online library is very poor, it is nothing like as good as the selection available by dvd through the post - but that of course would defeat the object since you can't play DVDs on the kindle fire.

So now I am well confused - what is the point of a tablet designed to play online movies, when the movie offering isn't up to speed?

Please tell me I am missing something obvious :o

Thanks

Dx

  • Unfortunatly all online movie streaming sites have poor librarys, There is also Netflix which is just as bad.

You could convert some of your home DVD's on your PC to play them on your Kindle Fire, Another option would be to take a Laptop with a DVD player with you and watch DVD's.

What you want to do really is find out a series you have not watched yet and work your way through the episodes, i.e LOST, PRISON BREAK, GAME OF THRONES, HOUSE etc..

Lovefilm have series's but once again not a massive collection, they have the whole Grays Anatomy i believe.

Do you have a sky package with all the movies?
  • Yeah I have Netflix and I LOVE IT!
I watch the US version too. Awesome. SVU, Modern Family, Mad Men, Portlandia, 30 Rock, Greys Anatomy, Buffy, etc etc <3
    Great selection of films too.

Lovefilm's online service is poor in terms of content however Netflix's certainly isn't. I guess you could say, like the first poster that replied, that Netflix is 'just as bad' but that is an opinion. The fact is their library is a hell of a lot better than Lovefilm's. Try it out, get a free trial :)

Thanks for all your posts and comments. I got a 6 month trial period of lovefilm for £15 which includes one DVD at a time by post and unlimited access to lovefilm online.

So far I am very underwhelmed by the online selection, but I am working my way through the Robin Hood series which is quite entertaining!

I was more referring to Netflix, try a trial with them if you can. I only say 'if you can' as don't know if a Kindle fire gives full internet access or you need an app etc. The Robin Hood series is a classic!

As of yet, do believe the only tablet that will run Netflix is the kindle fire HD, as netflix is owned by amazon.
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

Lovefilm is an Amazon company, not Netflix.
