Memories. I am youngest of eight and we shared 3 bedrooms with us 3 girls in one room at top of 3 storey house. One coal fire on ground floor so rooms heated from chimney going through the rooms. Not a sad story :). We appreciated everything we got and yes an orange in the stocking was exciting :)

I am one of 5 and my 2 sisters and I shared a double bed until we were in our teens. And we had the satsuma, a piece of coal and a sugar mouse in our stockings. And yes I agree we did have a good childhood as we lived on a farm and the country was our playground. Sadly we are a bit estranged now.

Santa tended to pass our house without stopping......in fact he missed out most of the area where I lived. In a funny kind of way Christmas had more meaning then because we had plenty of grub in, people called in for tea and biscuits and the house was always warm at this time of the year:)

We sang carols, went to church and ate turkey sandwiches with HP sauce and lashings of Namosa tea at midnight on xmas eve but no santa!! That would have been the icing on the cake:rotfl::rotfl:

Sad that Father Christmas never came to you but at least you had more food and a family to enjoy it with.

We also had some toys downstairs. We used to have to empty the fruit and nuts from our stocking into the fruit bowl so that they could be shared with everyone.

Oh yes, I forgot about the sugar mouse! We always had one of those which had a piece of string for its tail. You could suck it and lick it for days!

I could shame myself far easier than that. The chap looks the image of Mel from the TV series Benidorm.....so we've always referred to them as Mel and Madge.
Any of the hard stuff on offer and I'm almost certain to let slip:rotfl:

And my husband is worse than me....At a neighbours (a single lady) fiftieth a couple of years ago he'd had a few and when this little chap came up to him and asked where we'd got the desserts from, my hubby said they were in the back bedroom. Then added to be careful when reaching for the trifle as he'd accidently knocked against the bedside drawer and heard something start buzzing! He said he reckoned she'd forgotten to turn her whisk off ;);)

I could have died....OH didn't realise he was talking to the verger

We were too poor to have a phone. :( We had a tv with only BBC1 on it though and a big wireless. Nobody had central heating just one coal fire for the whole house. We used to have frost on the inside of our windows and get dressed to go to bed, including hat, socks and jumpers. I think Dickens must have based many of his novels on our family!
If we had coal you where only warm/burning within about 3 foot of the fire the rest of the house was freezing literally.
Going to bed once I had pulled the numerous blankets over me I could not roll over as they where too heavy:eek: if it was not for the fact I had rested during the night I would not of had the strength to push them off.
My 2 walking around the house in shorts as we speak :) have no idea

I remember my sister and I getting walkie talkie dolls....they were as big as us and were the scariest ruddy things ever!!!

They "walked" like they were wearing calipers and you made them "talk" by pulling a string on their back and they could have been talking swahili for all the sense they made :D
My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.

or if you find a good SA

    this would work

    8x £7.99 (2x £12 finest wine) = £63.92
    minus 25% offer - £15.98
    minus 2x £12 offer - £15.92
    to pay = £32.02

    then minus
    £20 double up - £20.00
    4x £2off £10 finest - £8.00

    total to pay £4.02 (50p a bottle)
