Free Oyster Card

Right, basically if you want an oyster card normally, you used to (not positive its still the case as ive had mine for a few months now) have to pay a deposit on the card itself.
Therefore this deal enables you to receive the card ready for you to top up without you having to pay £5 to get the card in the first place. Must admit, wish this deal was around when i got my oyster as it would have saved me a fiver!:p0 -
Mine arrived at last0

OH & I got one each when we went to London for a few days in February. They cost £3 each for the deposit.:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0

Like you, I'm an occasional tourist with children, because the in-laws live in London. We drive up to their place, but if we go anywhere within London with them, we usually use public transport because they get free travel, and b-i-l has his season ticket.The_Old_Bag wrote: »Received my Oyster Card today, but just to show how thick I obviously am......eh why the big "FREE" oyster card blurb.
Literature with card clearly says "The card doesn't currently hold any cash or tickets......" - ie I have another piece of plastic which doesn't actually get me anything. If I need to use London Transport I need to put money onto this card......or have I completely missed the point ?
Can you tell I'm not a Londoner, but only an occasional tourist
I thought it would be a money saving asset next time I take the kids to London for a few days. Can someone in the know kindly tell this Old Bag exactly how I have got something worthwhile for free, cos I just don't get it
I assumed it would have at least a few pounds already on it, or something ????
I've been aware that an Oyster card saves you money, but I've not got round to getting one. Finally, the pointer in Martin's email inspired me to send off for one for each of us. Next time we go to London I'll load some credit onto each one, and away we'll go.
Assuming I can find them all, of course ... In the meantime, it is just another bit of plastic filling up my purse - or rather 4 other bits of plastic filling up my purse, because I don't trust the boys not to lose it! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I missed out on these cards....
I clicked the link and it seems they ran out very very quickly...
Does anyone know if there are any other ways of getting an oyster card without having to pay the deposit???
I think TFL have enough money out of us already!!!!

They were handing out free Oyster cards in one of the tube stations recently. Keep your ears & eyes pealed to the radio and TV. If you listen to the likes of LBC 97.3fm & BBC London 94.9fm they may inform you of these offers from time to time or keep an eye on BBC London news on BBC1.0
