Free Oyster Card

I believe Oyster cards are specific to London. I can't speak for Manchester but in Bristol there are various pre-pay tickets you can buy for different kinds of buses, but alas, no longer a card which you can top up in advance and use on any route.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Yes, its a free card (usually you have to pay 3 pounds for it) and then you can put money on it at any newsagent with the oyster sign, to use on all london transport. More info on:http://www.tfl.gov.uk/0 -
We ordered a few of them, since we live on the outskirts of london and have visitors that often want to go into town.
Ordered a few for the gf's sisters, got quite a few of them now. Very handy.
Shame I have to spend £160 a month on my monthly pass that goes on it..0 -
Received my Oyster Card today, but just to show how thick I obviously am......eh why the big "FREE" oyster card blurb.
Literature with card clearly says "The card doesn't currently hold any cash or tickets......" - ie I have another piece of plastic which doesn't actually get me anything. If I need to use London Transport I need to put money onto this card......or have I completely missed the point ?
Can you tell I'm not a Londoner, but only an occasional tourist
I thought it would be a money saving asset next time I take the kids to London for a few days. Can someone in the know kindly tell this Old Bag exactly how I have got something worthwhile for free, cos I just don't get it
I assumed it would have at least a few pounds already on it, or something ???? 0 -
