    So you're in New Cross/Deptford?

Oooh, perhaps I could rejoin Lewisham Library after all (I live just beyond the opposite border of Peckham but am in Lewisham every other week to go to the market...)

    Sorry, off topic!

Are you sure that you usually have to pay for them? I live in London and have always been given them for free when I buy my buspass.

If you just get a pay as you go Oyster, then there is a £3 deposit normally.
For longer term bus passes/season tickets, there is no deposit just the cost of the pass.

I didn't pay any deposit this time... I left london for 3 years but never got my £3 back from my first oyster (didn't care though). I came back to London 6 months ago but didn't pay anything for the card... use only pay as you go as I walk to work.
To my knowledge you can join any library as long as you have ID etc. (I'm assuming a library wouldn't let you join if you lived miles away as they will know that you not going to pop back in with the books!)

Has anyone actually received their Oyster card yet? I applied for it on the same day as I applied for my Family Railcard - that arrived but no sign of the Oyster card.

You can join a library close to where you work. Also increasingly you can take your books back to any library, possibly not nationwide but I can use any in Bristol or B&NESomerset AFAIK, possibly SGlos as well ... doesn't have to be the library I borrowed them from.

    Sorry to be OT ...

Can I just add that library books can be returned to any library within your own county.
