Has anyone put books in their composter? I bought a job lot of books and some have the pages falling out or are damaged in other way or dirty [not in content but physically  ooh that sounds worse better stop trying to explain :o ] Rather than chucking them I wondered about removing the cover and putting small sections in at a time??

    Anyone done this?

  • Ive got 4 at the allotment and haven't parted with any hard cash for any :D

Keep an eye out in the local paper for people giving them away, pinched one off a disused allotment and had one given by a family friend who no longer uses theirs.

Have been putting in all waste coffee grounds from the restaurant I w ork in but find that it is making compost too sloppy so am now leaving that out for a while.

Pet droppings can be added to compost as long as your pet is a vegetarian

Check out your local council. Most have a scheme to either by them cheap or collect for free. Or try freecycle.

  • I have had my compost bin now for about 2 months and have been amazed at the reduction in the amount that is going into my landfill bin.

One question - should I have stirred it yet? How often should I give it a stir?
  • Being using my compost bin now for about a month! I love it! my children 5, 3 love having a nosey in it when emptying the kitchen caddy! There are loads of slugs moved in and a huge spider that was in the bin when I got it (left it in to eat some of the flies hehe)

going to start adding newspaper to the caddy :T top tip! Also shredded paper my green bin is going to be empty after loo rolls and kitchen rolls and paper go lol:D

I've not been putting in orange peel as I heard not too but should I?

yeah another thread for me to get hooked on!!
    it costs nothing to smile:D

I stir a couple of times a month so I would say it is definitely due one!
