Thanks girls! I'm so excited!!!
I'm home all day tomorrow so I can play with it - dont care if it IS raining!
Looking forward to trying out my water butt too - today's the first rain we've had since it was connected!
do I need to get a life, d'you think????... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

well if you are anything like me Rosieben, you will get just as excited about your water butt as you will your composter. When you see that little butt full to the brim with water you will be dying to use it but can't until it stops raining!0

Do you have to put your composter on soil? The position I was considering using is on concrete in a part of the garden where not much grows well as its in the shade of my garden shed. Would this be ok?
Thanks0 -
It's here! I can see why they're nicknamed Daleks AND I can now see why they blow away so readily: they're a wee bit flimsy are they no? It's really windy here today, so I've tucked in inbetween the greenhouse and the cabin: well out of OH's sight, because he's not too keen on the whole composting thing and will take any chance he gets to knock the idea
But, Am I bovvered?
Face, Bovvered, I'm NOT bovvered :rotfl:
However, the down side is, the leaflet says I should start off with about 6" of twiggy stuff, but I don't have 6" of twiggy stuff. I did have, last week, but I gave it all away to the council
Any suggestions?
p.s. This is my third attempt at posting this. I got so excited, I kept hitting the wrong buttonsA friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
How about cardboard cut into strips“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0

The idea is to create some airspaces at the bottom - otherwise it's soggy, claggy and compacted. The inside of toilet and kitchen rolls, torn up cardboard, newspaper scrunched up into big balls - that's the sort of thing you need at the bottom layer to start off with.
Good luck, Jayar. :T
