Hi lola and welcome to the obsessive composters! :T

I hope everyone's comments will help you when you do finally receive it but remember to start saving everything compostable in a bag or old bucket or something so that you have some good stuff to start it off with.

Thanks for welcoming me...can see I will be right at home with my fellow obsessive compotsers!! good tip for saving things, will dig out an old bucket later, have been feeling a bit guilty throwing things away I know can go in my compost bin, so thanks for the tip! xx

Just bought a 3kg pack of compost accelerator for £1.99 at my local Lidl's. Same product in Homebase was £3.49 for a 1.5kg box.
Says on the box this will speed up the composting process so this will help for this years planting hopefully.

Male urine is very good for accelerating the rotting process and apparantly the male "feramones" in in keeps the rats at bay

I think I read that female wee is too acidic (?!)

I've heard that male wee is very good but I can't quite bring myself to ask my boyfriend to carry out that task, he has enough bad habits!

Squiggle 37 - I think you should give it a go, from the posts in this thread there are obviously successful ways to deter them.

I would feel so guilty now throwing good veg waste etc away, I even comtemplate bring old work teabags home with me (now that is sad!)

I bring home everyone's banana skins from lunch, and the coffee grounds from the staff room machine! It's gotten to the point now (after three days...) where the folk I lunch with are waving their compostables at me and my little tupperware box (with very tight-fitting lid, otherwise the smell... eurgh.). But the bin needs feeding! It's like a student - always hungry ;) And there's only two of us at home to make waste for it!

ooh no, it'll attract some nasties! Keep to the veges etc....

Apparantly female wee is not as good as male wee but I read further up the thread that watered down female wee may not be as bad

    What a lovely subject :rotfl:

Just started using the lot from last November/December, it's quite beautiful, even smells really good and earthy!

In the past I found that composting takes a lot longer (6months minimum) over winter, so either the mild winter plus early spring has given it a boost or the purpose made bin from the local council does work better than my recycled old rubbish bins...

Either way, it worked, even without wee and horse poo!

(OH has enough bad habits without me encouraging him to p** in the compost bin!) :rotfl: :rotfl:

I got my hens last night and lo n behold when I went to check them this morning they had left a lovely present...little poops which I scooped up and threw into the bin and gave a good old stir...

Free eggs and free accelerating poop...wonderful :j
