WOOHOOOOO!!!! I can FINALLY join you all in home composting as guess what showed up this morning after 3 (yes, you read that right) months? Yep, my composter and kitchen caddy got dumped on my doorstep this morning, without so much as a courtesy ring of the doorbell. Just a coinsidnece I was watching from an upstairs window.
If the rain holds off long enough this afternoon, the boys and I will dig the soil over and place the dalek into place before adding all the stuff the we had been "storing" in the brown recycling bin all this time. Some of it has already broken down, but hopefully it will be faster now.0 -
I just rang to chase up my £8 compost bin - ordered on 3rd April! - and I was told that it has been picked today and will be with me tomorrow or Thursday. I seem to remember other people posting that they rang to chase their order and it miraculously appeared next day - am I being suspicious here? :rotfl:
I dont really care as long as it comes and I can get started on my compost - been really jealous reading this thread! :rotfl:... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi Rosieben and congratulations on receiving your composter!:j
I have noticed you generously thanking everyone along the way so it's nice to finally hear from you (apologies if you have posted before but this thread is so long now I admit to forgetting some people!).
Happy composting and I hope you have learnt lots from this thread because I certainly have and thanks to you all for that! :T0 -

Big huge welcomes to you!! :j :j :j0 -
I Love it, have been composting for 18 months now haven't looked at the bottom of the darlik yet but i love the fact when you cut the grass and it's full to the top when you go back a couple of days later the volume has dropped. our council are good at recycling so what with the composter and the recycling we've got the rubbish down to 1 bag aweek, it feels satisfying!!:TWould love to be a "Yummy Mummy" but more a "Slummy Mummy"!!:rotfl: :rotfl:0

This year I have dug some of our home made compost into my veg border for the first time. It was so exciting! It looked just like the "real" thing, all dark and gorgeous looking! I cant believe we made it out of stuff we would normally have put in the bin.
However - it obviously wasnt quite well rotted enough - (although the stuff I spread around was 18 months old) as we now have a few rogue spuds that have popped up in between the sweet peas! I am torn between whether this is a good thing or a bad thing!0 -
Have had my composter for12 months and as yet have not looked in the bottom, but all my grass, toilet rolls, fruit & veg bits n pieces, tea bags and shredded paper goes in. Green recycling bin no longer as smelly. We have fornightly bin collection (green one week, black the next) and it has really cut down on our rubbish. It actually makes you think more about recycling and I now do - paper, glass, tins, plastic and of course the composter. Can't wait to see the fruits of my labour now that I am finally getting plants in my garden to put the compost on!!!:T0

I dont always have anything to say thats useful or really worth posting and thats one reason I use the thanks button - as a way of being involved I suppose.
I've never composted before but I've also learnt so much from this thread; I cant wait to try it out! Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge and experience :T... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I totally get the 'it's full to the top when you go back a couple of days later the volume has dropped' thing, I thought it was only me that was wow'd by that!
By the way, I was born in Leigh, lived there for 18 years - cool place.:rotfl:0 -

I agree, since composting I hate throwing anything away if I think it can be recycled in some way.0
