Teabags... try collecting them and then re-infusing them with boiling water for a day or so and using to add to plant waterings inside or out, then you can further compost after. problem solved and no need to "wash" them

I've also heard the lime hating plants prefer either collected rain water or water with teabags in!

I've had my compost bin for about a year now and checked it yesterday for the first time - YAY I've got compost. My husband recently dug a trench in the garden to put some edging paving down and he thought I was mad because before I took away the dirt in the wheelbarrow I was going through it and picking out the worms to put in my compost. My son was not too impressed when I put him on worm duty too :D.

    Hi Fuglyjowls

Isn't it just so exciting when you discover it has actually worked!

Ive started putting ripped up cardboard inners of toilet rolls and kitchen rolls in but was unsure about cereal boxes. Are these ok even with the coloured cardboard?

 Read all the posts tonight with interest.
With regards to buying a second bin, I bought a large compost bag from LIDL about 2 weeks ago. This will come in handy in many ways and can be folded up and put away when not in use. It was £5 odd.
Sometimes when I go down the beach ( because I live next to the sea), I collect different coloured seaweeds to put in my compost.
    i put human hair in....someone said don't...but I do.....all the lists say you can...so I do....always had nice compost.
I get woodlice, slugs and flies, I dont care...after all...it's compost...still get nice compost.
I have read that citrus peel is ok in very small amounts....but if you add too much, it alters the balance of the compost and you have to add a load of grass to balance it out......too complicated....so I dont bother.
I would never put bread in.....bread is a baked product...
I have peed in a basin....and then added water.....and put it on the compost....result?...well...I still get my compost and I am female, I have never had rats. Someone told me recently to use sulphate of ammonia as an accelerator...or you can buy stuff.....or even just bide your time

I put my cereal boxes in, they seem to take bit longer to decompose so I make sure I really rip them up now. I don't really see it being any different to putting shredded paper with writing on it!

I've ordered my compost bin through our local council and got a massive reduction, only down side is I have to wait up to 28 days for delivery! Still at least I'll have enough time to read up on how to use it properly! I'm sooooo excited...is that sad?! Ah well! :rotfl:

Hi lola and welcome to the obsessive composters! :T

I hope everyone's comments will help you when you do finally receive it but remember to start saving everything compostable in a bag or old bucket or something so that you have some good stuff to start it off with.
