  • Fantastic selection of independent music on emusic, as long as your taste is in current indie rock/pop, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like.

Maybe worth noting that the free trial can be obtained as many times as you have different credit or debit cards to sign up with. I've had over 700 free tracks so far.
  • Just a few more suggestions (aded to Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Sufjan Stevens, Antony & the Johnsons, Johnny Cash) of highly acclaimed indie-style stuff worth checking out on there:

    Belle and Sebastian
The Raconteurs (fronted by Jack White from the White Stripes)
    The Pixies
    Elbow
    Tom Waits
    The Gossip
    Cat Power
    The Rakes

There's also a fair bit of older stuff which was (and still is popular):

    The Kinks
    Ocean Colour Scene
    The Bluetones
    Paul Weller
    Marvin Gaye

    Anyone looked at allofmp3.com?
You can get almost anything from here.
Very cheap, but is it legal???

I signed up for the e-music trial. If you like music from Indie labels, eg Rough Trade, Stiff etc this service is from you. Was able to locate some old Punk and New wave classics that I haven't heard in ages.

One thing to note is that near the end of the trial period, I elected to cancel. I gave the reason that "I prefer to pay for tracks individually".

As a result, I was given a further offer of three months for 20 tracks per month at £5.99 (instead of 30 at 8.99) which is excellent value and compares very favourably to other services. I duly signed up. I intend to cancel again at the end of the 3 months...wonder if I will get another offer?

By the way allofmp3 is most definitely NOT legal. It is a Russian site that the EU is trying to close down. By all accounts the sound quality is appalling.

I've just looked on Quidco, Mutual Points and iPoints and no eMusic on any of them. That will save you the trouble of looking at those at least!

greaseypalm have the trial with £2 cashback, but its only for 25 downloads I think.

a while back I asked quidco to offer cashback on emusic's free trial but they weren't added. Oh well.

:s Don't know why people can't find stuff. I'm 17 and managed to use 100 d/ls in about an hour :)

I think it's because of the type of music that's available. I'd struggle to find 100 tracks to download because of my musical tastes not being accommodated by their site.

  • A good find this one. I've managed to use most of my 100 free downloads without really trying!
I'm going to try the offer that they have on the site to refer a friend and receive 50 free downloads. I wonder if it'll work during the trial period?
