You are all oh-so-right about perfumes.
My sister loves 'Tweed' and has worn it regularly for over 40yrs - ever since she was around 19yrs old. I adore it on her - but on me it smells simply awful!
When we were younger my favourite was 'Topaz' from Avon but it appears to have been discontinued quite a few years ago. I also loved 'L'aimant' by Coty - but now only ever seem to see the Body Spray in all the 'cheapie shops' lol.
My teenage daughter wears Coty L'aimant. I commented to my 80 year old Mum that I used to wear it when I was a teenager and she answered that so did she.:) It has certainly stood the test of time.0 -
I feel its so mean to complain about getting gifts - we are lucky people care about us and make the effort.
However!!! My mum owned a gift shop and I would get whatever cr*p wasnt selling.... I asked one year for a plug in aromatherapy thingie and the repy was "we dont sell those"!!! I knew she stocked other stuff from the company so she could still have got it at cost price, which is what mattered.
Sadly her place has now been taken by MIL. I always ask for a voucher, and even give her websites to buy them on, nt even having to leave the house. She insists on a Christmas list (OH is over 40) but never actually manages to get anything off them.
Instead I get money and about £20 of total sh*t... clothes pegs shpaed like cats(we lived in a flat, no garden and a tumble dryer), socks with cats, tea trays with cats, brown fish net tights 3 sizes too small, the list goes on... It sounds really wingey but it all goes to charity in January and she thinks she has spent time getting me something nice.
Last year was good, really cheap and nasty polyester socks. And OH's had days of the week on!NOT a NEWBIE!

Would rather get a single beautiful chocolate than a whole box of the bog standard ones.
Hate getting anything to do with candles, but love beautiful christmas decorations. Something I can bring out every year to admire again and again.Truth always poses doubts & questions. i don't like gift sets mainly because i don't use body lotion i'd sooner have a nice bottle of bubble bath on its on or some expensive shampoo i don't usually get to buy.
i don't like chocolates cause i'm picky and i have to share lol.
i like gifts people have thought about me to get and i like gift cards but not places i could spend on food or regular shop or the kids.
i like books but i've read so many that might be hard but i do have a wishlist.
i don't like jewellery because i don't wear it often but saying that a simple locket would be nice.
i don't like wine etc cause i don't drink and i feel if i wanted to i could buy it myself.
i'd love a voucher for a beauty treatment that would be my fave

Every year, my SIL gives me either a bottle of wine or a gift set with a miniature bottle of alcohol plus a glass, chocs, etc. This has only been since my ex (her brother) left me and our children to start a new family elsewhere, so about eight years. The only problem is, I'm teetotal. Always have been, always will be. It's well known within the family that I never drink alcohol of any type whatsoever. So I'm hoping for something different this year, but I'm not holding my breath!
Other gifts I would rather not receive are:
* solid soap - I prefer liquid soap and shower gels/bubble bath
* anything with nuts in. I have a severe allergy to almonds and do not eat nuts or use any products with nuts in, no matter what type of nut, on the advice of my doctor.
* Books - unless I have chosen them. I adore reading, but have read so many books of the type I enjoy, I usually end up with double ups.
* Chocolate - I'm trying to lose weight.
* Make up. I don't wear it.
I would like to receive:
* Slippers - I have several pairs and like to wash them regularly. My daughter always buys me a pair at Christmas, and I'm always happy to receive them
* Books that I have chosen
* DVDs - I have a wish list. Tenko is at the top, followed by the Minette Walters collection. My sister bought me the Prime Suspect complete set for my birthday
* Decent pens, a good notebook with quality paper, other nice stationery items
* Socks, especially fluffy bedsocks
* Magazine subscription to something I will read
* A gift via a charity (education or jabs to a child in a developing country, or a donation to my son's special school). I enjoy receiving gifts as much as anyone, but I don't really need more stuff. Others neeed things more than I do.

lol yeah i write list to not that anyone pays any attention to it. i usually tell people what i want0 -
I'm in my 40s and I detest any body cream, shampoo etc type gift sets but I give them to charity so they aren't wasted. I'd hate socks, scarves or any clothing really.
I'd rather have a box of chocolates none of the those luxury Belgian ones though. Far too much cocoa in for me, give me Cadburys anyday.:o Maybe a magazine subscription would be nice too.0 -
Definitely no toiletry gift sets/slippers/nightwear/scarves/chocolates/cosmetics. Oh dear I sound like a right misery guts.0

I am the simplest person to buy for - I always ask for whsmith gift cards as I have a kobo and use them to buy ebooks. But I never get them, my MIL buys me a random book each year - I swear she just picks up 1st one she sees, usually a romance when I mainly read horror/thriller/biography.
Sounds ungrateful but id much prefer she just popped the money on a giftcard.
I also don't want any horrible girly clothes (im a tomboy) jewellery or ornaments.
What I Do want...whsmiths vouchers! I'm 33 by the way.0
